Growing up, I was a baseball sister and, well, I guess I still am. I spent every summer on the road with my family, traveling all over the East Coast for countless tournaments. By being a baseball sister I pretty much learned that baseball is the core value of my family (kidding, but not really.) But, as a baseball sister, certain things do become true that may not apply to many others.
1. You can actually follow what is going on in a game
Why someone would swing on a 3-0 count is beyond you and you have been known to vocalize it.
2. When guys find out you actually know what you're talking about, they freak out
When you go to a jersey-themed social and it turns into an interrogation session on how well you know the Yankees' lineup and who their closer is.
3. After any given game, the whole team takes over one half of the restaurant
And the hotel lobby after that.
4. Going to a game with friends and they all ask you what just happened
"How'd he just get out, there was no play?"
"The pitcher just picked him off first base."
"What's that mean?"
"Oh gosh."
5. You roll your eyes when girls claim to be "cleat chasers"
If only you saw how they really act.
6. High school girls are no match for baseball parents when it comes to gossip
You literally cannot go out to dinner without having a conversation about baseball.
7. Your summers revolved around your brother's tournaments and which city you were going to next
St. Augustine, Orlando, Ft. Myers, Nashville, and Atlanta were all a typical month in the summer.
8. You met some of your best friends because of travel ball
I still have a group text with two of the other baseball sisters I feel like I've known forever. When you spend all summer, every summer with these people, it's hard to not become close friends.
