With the start of the New Year, comes the countless resolutions that many people make to not only improve as human beings, but to make life for others better as well. But, instead of an article about resolutions that won’t probably happen, here is a short list of the things that I’m most excited about for 2017.

School:

As I’m about to start my second semester of college, I am excited to once again get into the groove of things and obtain new knowledge concerning my academics. I look forward to making many more memories with my friends and family (before winter break is over) and to making improvements to my work schedule to minimize unnecessary stress and late nights.

Politics:

After the controversial election of 2016, I’m anxious to see how Donald Trump’s first several weeks in the White House will play out, and how many of his campaign pledges he keeps and which ones he decides to throw out. I also am excited to witness all of the political drama and commentary that will occur, and who will make the most buzz with outrageous comments (Kanye 2020)?

Music:

After a stellar year in 2016 for music and the release of several great albums by ScHoolboy Q, The Weeknd, Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, and J Cole among others, I’m ready for another year of heart pounding, soul touching, window shattering bangers that will drop in the new year. I’m most excited for news regarding Logic’s new project, Drake’s upcoming More Life project, as well an update on the trajectory of Kendrick Lamar’s new album. Overall, I am most excited for music in 2017 (music is a Major Key), and I can’t wait to see what artists will drop in the following months.

Basketball:

Watching the Cavs and Warriors NBA Finals rematch on Christmas once again made me even more anticipated for the awesome NBA playoff matchups, and which players will be the source of savage poster dunks, and vicious crossovers. I’m excited to see how the Golden State Warriors will solve their star player woes (and if Stephen Curry can get back on track), how other teams will develop throughout this season and in the playoffs (in particular the Portland Trailblazers, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Oklahoma City Thunder), and the MVP race between two of the hottest players in the game, Russell Westbrook and James Harden. Other than the NBA, I am excited for March Madness, and which college teams will be the "Cinderella" teams of the playoffs, and which top tier programs will be all hype and not show in the tournament. As a Gonzaga Bulldogs fan, I want to see how they can take the momentum of their awesome start to this season into the tournament and if they can top their recent Elite Eight run.

All in all, 2017 looks to be an awesome year, and it has the potential to be the most fun filled and hyped year ever (but I think most years are like this). I hope everyone has had a good start to 2017, and here’s to another great year with new memories, new friendships, and new knowledge.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
