The Pats are back. After going missing for the last six weeks, they finally reappeared for their game against Kansas City. Going into the game, a good number of "experts” liked the Chiefs to pull off the upset. Now as ridiculous as this might seem, these people had some evidence to back up their predictions. In the last six weeks of the season, the Patriots had only won two games. The two wins were against the Texans and the lowly Titans. The four games they lost were against one playoff team and three of the teams that are in the first twenty picks in the NFL draft. In short, they should have easily won five out of their last six games. Sadly, this was not the case, and all of New England was worried. Where had the Patriots from the beginning of the season gone? They had been playing terribly and their offense was nonexistent. We know now that the lackluster offense was a result of all the injuries.
The Patriots came out firing in the first drive of the game yesterday. With the return of Brady’s favorite target Julian Edelman and a healthy Gronk, the Pats were in full swing. They walked 80 yards down the field and scored a touchdown. Three drives later they did the exact same thing to end the half. The second half consisted of the exact same level of play. The Chiefs had the ball to start the second half, but the Patriots forced a fumble and recovered it. They then proceeded to drive down the field and score yet another touchdown. Their next two drives produced a field goal each and with that the game was all but over. The Chiefs played well, but the Patriots were clearly superior on both offense and defense. Julian Edelman had a few drops at the beginning, but other than that, he had a great game. Gronkowski, who was in the news earlier this week because of health questions, showed that he was 100 percent healthy by playing a phenomenal game.
Now that Brady has his full complement of receivers back, he is once again the best player in the league. After defeating the Chiefs, the Patriots will gear up for next weekend when they play either the Broncos or the Steelers for the right to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Look for the Patriots to put up another stellar game against either opponent. Brady has the competitive fire in him and it is spreading throughout the entire Patriots team. After everything that Goodell put the Patriots through in the off season, nothing would be sweeter than for him to have to hand Tom Brady the Lombardi Trophy.
