A Thank You Letter To My Boyfriend
Athena Sher

To my loving boyfriend,

Sometimes people come into your life unplanned, and then they never leave. You were one of these people. When you're young, you doubt relationships will last, and entering new ones is certainly scary; however, taking the risk is sometimes worth it and for me it definitely was. Every day I wake up, I realize how lucky and blessed I am to have you in my life.

You love me for all my quirks, all my flaws and all of my obsessions. You love me even when I have anxiety attacks, get a bout of rage or leave chunks of my hair all over your house and car.

1. Thank you for dealing with my anxieties.

You have been given the biggest blow: I’m clingy and needy and that’s mostly because of my parents leaving, but no matter how clingy, possessive and needy I get, you understand and you love me even more for it. You constantly reassure me, you help me overcome my fears and motivate me to be a better version of myself. You always know how to calm me down, and I can't imagine how difficult that is.

2. Thank you for all the new memories.

You have brought me on countless adventures, and dating you is an adventure itself. You showed me all your secret areas, you introduced me to new foods and you let your friends become my friends. You’ve brought me to places all over that I’ve fallen in love with. Every day is an adventure, and I’m lucky to spend it with the most beautiful human being ever — inside and out.

3. Thank you for not hating me for when I’m wrong.

Not every day is a good day, but we get through it. When I feel like I’m falling, you never fail to pick me back up. Sometimes I pick random fights with you, but you’re always forgiving no matter what, and thanks for forgiving me.

4. Thank you for allowing me to be me.

It’s hard for me to open up to people, but the second I met you, I was an open book. You know all my favorite books, movies and quotes. You know how much I love "Harry Potter" and "Star Wars," and lucky me, you help in feeding my obsessions, even when you don’t enjoy them as much as I do.

5. Thank you for letting me miss you.

I know you travel a lot for your job, and sometimes we don’t talk for hours on end, but when we do I am certainly the biggest “mush” you’ve ever seen. I can talk to you for hours and blow up your phone with nonsense, yet you’re perfectly accepting of that. You know when things get tough on me, you’re the only person I want to talk to, no matter where you are or what you’re doing you will stop just to reply to me.

6. Thank you for letting me call you goofy nicknames.

No matter how much you hate it, you’re my hubby, baby, bub, mush, gup and the numerous other nicknames I call you. I know a few frustrate you, but you never fail to answer when I call you them. You know they make me smile.

7. Thanks for making me feel like I fit in.

I know there is an age difference between us, but you never fail to make me feel included even when were out with your guy friends (who, by the way, are pretty awesome human beings ever). I know you love cars, and I am thrilled to always go to a car event because I know there is always someone for me to socialize with and it gives me a chance to watch how thrilled you get to talk about something you love.

8. Thank you for feeding me.

You love food just as much as I do which is great, but you’ve made me an ultimate foodie. Because of you, I’ve tried all different foods from all different cultures, and you’ve brought me to some of the most insane places I’ve ever been. Also, thanks for knowing I eat like a moose and for being OK with that, I know I can put away like five main courses and you admire it, and thanks for cooking for me, your hidden talents are my favorite.

9. Thank you for being my personal photographer.

Even though you’re a professional photographer, you always get wonderful candids of me (mostly eating), but I know how happy they make you, and I love it.

10. Thank you for being my biggest fan.

You support my writing, you show it off, and you always share it. You always motivate me. You encourage me to reach my dreams, and you’re relentless when I want to give up. I know when I go out and do something, you’re right there behind me, hence calling me "Dr. Sher" and motivating me to get that g-wagon.

11. Thank you for teaching me new things.

I’m always open to learning, and you are always open to teaching. Whether it be: how to change the oil in a car, how to take the proper photo or how to build a deck — you’re always willing to show me something new, and you have all sorts of trades you're good at.

12. Thank you for tickling me and playing with my hair.

My hair gets everywhere, but you’re always open to brushing it. You even gave me a drawer for my own brush in your bathroom (a milestone). You tickle me even when you’re half asleep and you always do it when I ask.

13. Thank you for always picking me up.

I know I live kind of far, but you know how much I hate driving. If I ever need a ride I know I can depend on you, even if you’re going 20 minutes in the opposite direction.

14. Thank you for letting me vent.

Even when I go on hour-long rants I know you listen. You care so much about my day even if it was bad, and I know I can be repetitive, but you let me continue anyway and you never interrupt.

15. Thank you for letting me pay (sometimes).

I know how much you hate it when I pay, but sometimes I’m sly and sneak my credit card to the cashier — sorry not sorry.

16. Thank you for making me laugh endlessly.

You don’t even have to try. You’re the funniest, goofiest, most charming person I’ve ever met, and you can make me giggle even when I want to cry. Your personality matches mine so well, you complete me.

17. Thank you for being the shoulder I cry on.

Both literally and figuratively — I can always depend on you for being there when I need a good cry. You’re my wall, my rock, and your shoulder is the perfect place for my own version of the “Kim Kardashian ugly cry.”

18. Thank you for letting me have the aux cord.

I know you despise how I constantly skip songs, but you let me play my music anyways — even though Britney Spears or Pierce the Veil wasn’t your first choice for the car ride.

19. Thank you for being open with me and for being you.

Thank you for always feeling open with me. You always can depend on me, and I’ll always be there for you. You’re one of the greatest people I have ever met, and I can’t imagine how I got so lucky. You’re sweet, funny, motivated, successful, strong and capable of anything.

20. Thank you for being more than just my boyfriend.

You’re my best friend, my inspiration and a hero. You go above and beyond, and I can always trust that you’ll be there for me. You’re there at three in the morning when I need to talk and at 10 at night when I’m getting home from work. You’re always down to gossip and go to the mall with me (even though you stand outside the stores). You’re my favorite person ever, you understand me, and never make me feel like I need to change.

You’re more than my boyfriend, you’re: my best friend, my partner in crime, my mush, my motivator, my supporter, my biggest fan, and basically the male version of me. You’re amazing, dedicated, honest, helpful, and I’m so lucky to have you. I wouldn’t want to spend my days with anyone else, and there isn’t enough “thank yous” in the world for you. I’m so blessed and grateful to have you in my life. No matter where we end up, I hope I end up there with you.

I love you,

Your Girlfriend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
