If you have not seen it, recently a New Jersey high school has made an 'inclusive' cheer squad. The policy states how every student who tries out will make the team.

This was put into effect after a parent of a child who did not make the team complained to the school. This left the members who earned their spot on the team obviously very upset because they felt as though their hard work went to waste.

This situation can easily be a problem for many reasons. Here are the main two issues I thought of when I saw this post:

The first reason is that not everyone is cut out for every sport no matter how much they want to be.

Cheerleading consists of multiple dangerous skills that someone who isn't cut out for it can easily hurt themselves and others while doing. The main thing skill stunting. If a member of the team isn't cut out to stunt (usually consists of four or five people but sometimes two), they can easily cause something to happen and get multiple people seriously hurt.

If a member of the team were to fall from the top of a stunt or not be caught correctly, it could cause issues that could follow her the rest of her life. Tumbling is another example of this. Not everyone has the strength and flexibility to be able to tumble. If it's not done properly anyone could get seriously hurt, even professions do.

The second reason is what is the lesson for these students? The students who had put in all the hard work and had made the team feel as though their time was wasted.

If I was a student who had put in so much commitment and it just went to waste, I would really think if anything else deserved for me to spend my time on. And the student who now doesn't have to try, this has taught them that things should be handed to you, but that's not how the real world works. Not everyone can make a team - not everyone can be best.

This isn't showing any of the students that they should even study for their tests and that their grades should just be handed to them.

Not everyone is going to make a college team in sports. Not everyone is going to get the best scholarships. It is important that we show students (especially high school and younger) that everyone needs to work for what they receive.

As nice as it would be, the world isn't full of handouts. Also, you can't feel proud of something that you didn't earn. It is important that we are able to feel that emotion and express it throughout our achievements.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
