These past few weeks have been some of the most stressful of my life. I do not handle stress all that well. Whether it is stress over getting a new job, finishing schoolwork, or dealing with friend drama, stress is not fun for anyone. However, I have found a few methods and things that take my mind off of all of the parts of my life that stress me out. So, if you are feeling stressed or have anxiety over something, here are a few ways that could help you out.
1. Breathe
This seems like such an easy step, but it is actually really hard to just stop and think about where you are. By taking a minute to relax and breathe, it helps to alleviate the stresses that you may be feeling.
2. Exercise
For years, many people have told me the benefits of going to the gym or working out when it comes to stress. I have friends that swear by the gym in order for them to de-stress and release their frustration. I have just recently started going to the gym, and it is so nice to have a place that I can go to take out all of my emotions on a machine and work my body to its fullest potential.
3. Write In a journal
Whenever I feel like I can't talk to anyone about my problems, I write them down. Sometimes visualizing the problems that you are facing makes them seem less intense and more manageable.
4. Find a new show to watch
Right now, I am currently watching the show "Shameless." Watching the Gallaghers' dysfunctional lives play out in each episode helps me to forget about why I am so stressed. Find a show that you can start to watch whenever you feel like you need a break from the real world.
5. Pray
This is something that I like to do at night before I go to bed. I pray about the next day that is to come and I pray that everything goes well. Talking to God and casting all your anxieties on Him is a really good way to alleviate stress.
6. Take some "me" time
Sometimes when everything starts to pile up and become too much, it is hard to find time to yourself. Set aside time in your day to focus on just you. It can be the whole day or even a few minutes, but it is important to take care of yourself.
7. Make a feel-good playlist
Music can boost endorphins and make you happy. So why not create a great playlist that you can jam to whenever you need a break? I have a few go-to playlists full of music that I know will cheer me up or calm me down, depending on my mood.
8. Treat yo self
Take yourself out shopping and buy yourself something that will make you happy. If you are stressed about money, you probably shouldn't follow this step. However, it really makes a difference when someone takes care of themselves. Treat yo self to the gift of Dutch Bros or new shoes because you deserve it.
9. Talk to someone
There are a few people in my life that I am able to share everything with. Those types of people are rare and should be cherished forever. Find someone you trust, and share what's going on with them. Sometimes having someone else's perspective on a problem can help.
10. Make a game plan
When I am freaking out over school and work, I make a game plan of all of the things I need to do. I write everything out on a calendar so I can visualize what I need to do in order to be successful for the week. This has helped immensely.
