SEC Football 2015: A Look Ahead

Now that March Madness is over and the NBA playoffs are nearing their end, we have one thing to look forward to. Luckily for us, that one thing is the best thing: SEC football.

With signing day and open practices in the rearview, it will be tailgating, fight song playing, and touchdown celebrating season before we know it. With that said, let's look at a simple preview of what each team in the best conference in all of college football, has to offer in 2015.

The East

Tennessee

Coming off of back to back to back 5-7 seasons from 2011-2013, finishing 7-6 with a bowl game win in 2015 was a step in the right direction for this Tennessee team. After getting two top-5 recruiting classes in a row, you cannot deny the talented roster that Butch Jones and co. have with returning players like Joshua Dobbs, Pig Howard, Marquez North, Derek Barnett, Cam Sutton, Curt Maggitt and Jalen Reeves-Maybin, along with some freshmen who are likely to see the field. With an experienced QB, what is likely to be a scary good defense (returning 18 players total – 8 on defense), and a coaching staff dedicated to bringing Tennessee back to national prominence, 2015 could be a very good year for the Volunteers to back the hype, and show the SEC that we are back.

Georgia

In 2014, Georgia was undoubtedly one of the strongest teams in the east. Finishing 10-3, it has been made clear that Georgia's running game is not something to mess with. Losing Todd Gurley will be no problem for the Bulldogs, seeing as how sophomore Nick Chubb proved that he can and will be a workhorse for GA and run the ball like it's nothing. Like in many other programs, Georgia has a new coach on board. Brian Schottenheimer, who spent a lot of time in the NFL, is now the Bulldogs' offensive coordinator. With a tough schedule ahead, the Bulldogs may struggle here and there but with speed on their side, I think they will ultimately finish strong, as they always tend to do.

Missouri

Mizzou is no team to undermine, seeing as how they have won the division two years in a row. Although Mizzou is losing a lot of strong defensive players, with a skilled coach like Gary Pinkel and a returning QB/RB duo like Maty Mauk and Russell Hansbrough, the Tigers can easily maintain their prominence. Another thing to take note of is the all-SEC talent that Mizzou has been producing on the D-line the previous two years, like Shane Ray and Michael Sam. Do I think it is possible for Mizzou to make another run for the champions of the East? Yes. Do I think it will happen again? Not quite.

Florida

To most Florida fan's excitement, 2014 meant the end of Will Muschamp's coaching days as a Gator. With Jim McElwain stepping in, it's hard to imagine that the Gators will be a force in the SEC this season from the get-go, especially with the loss of eight players to the NFL draft, including key player Dante Fowler. The Florida defense is likely to be the glue that holds this team together once again, while the offense will probably take a bit of a hit because of inexperienced players returning at the WR position. Another big question lies in Florida being able to find a solid player for the QB position, after a season of uncertainty regarding this position.

South Carolina

The Gamecocks entered 2014 with high expectations that they quickly fell short of. On top of not winning the east, finishing the season with seven wins (the team's lowest total since '09) isn't exactly what Steve Spurrier and many fans had envisioned. South Carolina is going to lose a lot of important players on both offense and defense like QB Dylan Thompson, RB Mike Davis, and a few skilled line players as well. One thing South Carolina has to look forward to is the talent that WR Pharoh Cooper has to offer. This upcoming season might be a little bumpy for the Gamecocks unless they can fix their struggling defense (that allowed 6.5 yard/play in SEC games).

Kentucky

Under Mark Stoops, the Wildcats have shown signs of improvement over the last three years. Although they had a strong start to the season, that came to an abrupt stop when the Wildcats lost their last six games, which caused them to fall one win short of making it to a bowl game. Losing DL Bud Dupree to the draft is going to be rather hurtful for the Wildcat defense. With an offense that struggled to click, and not being able to compete with teams that have proved to be more talented, Kentucky has some spots to fill, and this could be an interesting year for Stoops.

Vanderbilt

It is never easy to lose a very talented coach: Vanderbilt quickly discovered this when James Franklin, who turned the Vandy program around in his three seasons there, left to coach at Penn State. Derek Mason stepped in and he did not exactly enter with a bang. Finishing 3-9 without any SEC wins, it is safe to say that it was a tough year for the Commodores. Mason has some new coaches coming in, and it seems as if there is only room for improvement with this young team and staff.

The West

Alabama

It is no surprise that Alabama is once again going to be one of the most talented teams in the SEC. There is no questioning the talent that the Crimson Tide has to offer, seeing as how they have had the number one recruiting class from 2010-2015. The big question with Alabama is who will be talented enough to step in as QB and replace Blake Sims? Likewise, what receiver will be able to take Amari Cooper's place as the go-to guy? Although Alabama's defense will be impressive, it is likely that their secondary will be weakened with the loss of key player Landon Collins. They are also losing the talent and consistency of T.J. Yeldon as well. Will Alabama be able to establish the type of running game that wore down defenses at the end of games that led to their national championship runs? These are the questions that I believe will truly be determining factors, as to how Alabama's season plays out.

Auburn

After an impressive season in 2013, Auburn failed to make the same magic happen again in 2014 when finishing their season 8-5. With a defense that hasn't been the best, losing starting QB Nick Marshall, and having a new defensive coordinator (Florida's past head coach Will Muschamp), this season will be telling for the Tigers. There are a lot of positions to be filled on both sides of the ball, but this Tiger team isn't one to doubt, and they can easily hit double-digits in the win column once again.

Texas A&M

The Aggies strength since being one of the newest teams in the SEC has always been their offense. They have struggled defensively and have faced difficulty when facing talented teams – allowing nearly 7 yards per play against SEC opponents. Kevin Sumlin made a good hire with John Chavis who was successful at LSU for many years. With Sumlin's recruiting skills and Chavis' proven experience, Texas A&M has the opportunity to look like a whole new team.

Arkansas

Finishing the 2014 season 7-6, the Razorbacks are likely to step into the 2015 season as a completely revamped team. Although the Razorbacks are losing some big name players like DL Trey Flowers and LB Martrell Spaight, Bielema's team is returning almost every single player on their offense, which will continue to be impressive as far as ground attacks go. If there is one thing Arkansas has attempted to perfect, it is their run game, which is likely to wear opposing teams down. I think it is extremely possible for Arkansas to claim a top spot in the SEC west this season.

LSU

It is a known fact that Les Miles is one of the greatest coaches in college football today. There always proves to be an unbelievable amount of talent on LSU roster. For me, LSU is sort of up-in-the air for the 2015 season. They are losing half of their secondary starters, and their QB situation seems a little cloudy as well. One player that stands out is RB Leonard Fournette. As a freshman in 2014, Fournette had over 1,000 rushing yards. It will be fun to see how he continues to develop, and who will help him offensively.

Ole Miss

Ole Miss is entering the 2015 season with yet another solid defense that is likely to be just as good, if not better, than it was last season. Even though the Rebels are losing some strong players like Cody Prewitt and Senquez Golson, with players like Robert Nkemdiche leading the defense, along with a loaded backfield, there is nothing to worry about. One concern will be filling the spot of QB Bo Wallace, as well as seeing how WR Laquon Treadwell bounces back from injury.

Mississippi State

Mississippi State is one of the teams that I personally am most excited to see in the upcoming season. The Bulldogs are returning QB Dak Prescott while losing key players like LB Benardick McKinney and RB Josh Robinson. iI will be interesting to see who fills the positions needed to keep Prescott guarded, and for him to hand the ball off to. Will they be able to build off of their strong 2014 season, or have the Bulldogs hit their own personal ceiling?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
