11 Reasons to Relay For Life With NYU

Cancer never sleeps, neither should we.

11 Reasons to Relay For Life With NYU
Colleges Against Cancer at NYU

On April 30, 2016, the hardworking and dedicated committee of students from NYU's organization, Colleges Against Cancer, will get to see their hard work come to life in the annual event, Relay for Life. After months and months of planning for this big day, hundreds of students, families, friends, and survivors will come together to continue the fight against a disease that has taken too much from the world. A night filled with laughter, tears, memories, and community - this is an event that you don't want to miss. Colleges Against Cancer wants YOU to join the cause! Here are just a few reasons why:

1. For twelve hours, you can leave your dorm/apartment/house to be surrounded and embraced by a passionate and supportive community.

2. You will raise awareness and be part of a great cause.

3. You will have the opportunity to remember, and walk in memory of, those you've lost to cancer.

4. You can support your friends as they walk for those they have loved and lost.

5. You will inspire and be inspired to take action and join the fight.

6. Food, games, raffles, live music, challenges - need I say more?

*NEW THIS YEAR: You can register your team to participate in the Olympics competition during the night of Relay! Rumor has it, events include: musical chairs, pie eating, knock-out, and a lip-sync contest. You don't want to miss out! Register at: bit.ly/RelayOlympicsNYU

7. You'll get all the exercise you need to justify another week of "I don't have time to go to the gym today" excuses.

8. You will get to experience the first year it is held at the Field House at Chelsea Piers!!

9. Every second you spend at Relay you know you are making a difference in honor of everyone whose life has been affected by this terrible disease.

10. If your favorite color is purple, this event has your name written all over it.

11. You will be part of the fight that finds the cure.

So, why do I Relay for Life? I Relay for those who can't. Let's come together for the fight for the cure to create a world with more birthdays and less good-byes.

There is still plenty of time to sign up! To learn more about this great cause you can go to American Cancer Society's Relay for Life page at: www.relayforlife.org

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
