A smile, otherwise known as a “super magnificent incredible lively expression” -- at least, that's what it should be known as -- is not to be underestimated. A smile is infinitely powerful. Just as the sun brings life, a smile brings joy and happiness. How many times have you smiled today? Go ahead, take a second and think about it.
If you had enough fingers to count your smiles on, then we have a bit of a problem -- unless you just woke up, then you get a pass. Smiling should be as effortless as breathing. You should be smiling so many times a day that you’d have better luck counting the number of licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop than the number of times you've smiled.
However, don’t fret if you’re severely lacking in the smile department, I am here to lend a helping hand, and hopefully to squeeze a few smiles out of you because, as a wise elf once said, “smiling is my favorite.”
You should smile because...
1. You’re alive!
Being alive on this beautiful day on this beautiful planet is reason enough to break out into a smile -- or song, whichever you prefer. You can laugh or do a jig or do jumping jacks or write a poem or climb a tree or bake a cake or play an instrument or audition for a play...you can do anything! Be grateful about that because not everyone is so fortunate. You. Are. Alive. Wowza, that is mighty cool!
2. You’re loved!
You seriously are loved. And if you are rolling your eyes, thinking, Yeah, yeah I’m loved -- whatever, everyone says that. Well, it’s true, you are -- you’ve heard it before because of how true it is! Someone is probably thinking about you right now, and guess what!? I bet they’re smiling!
A plethora of attractive guys think you're the bees' knees.
And if you fancy the ladies, they love you, too.
3. It’s almost summer!
No explanation is really needed for this reason to smile. Summer means freedom, sunshine, beaches, friends, traveling, popsicles, dresses, and everything under the sun -- pun intended. Summer can pretty much be equated to a sandy heaven of relaxation and fun.
4. If you’re experiencing a miserable low, the next stop on life’s crazy journey will be a wonderful high!
I may have despised physics in high school, but I do remember Newton’s Third Law: every action must have an equal and opposite reaction. Immense pain balanced out by immense pleasure. Sadness to happiness. Crying to smiling. Smile about that! It’s about to get a whole lot better!
5. These cute animals are begging you to!

Smile, smile, smile! And have a wonderful day celebrating this amazing thing we call life!
