11 Signs You Go To St. Ambrose
St. Ambrose University

Each and every university is unique in its own way, but St. Ambrose is special. It's that little school in Davenport, IA that seems to feel like home. Whether you’re a freshman, a senior or a graduate, here are signs you go or went to St. Ambrose.

1. BEE Puns

Every student that goes to St. Ambrose has heard a BEE pun at some point. “BEE the Difference”, “BEEcoming an Ambrosian." The school loves using BEE in anything and everything they can. You’ve also probably captioned at least one Instagram photo with a BEE pun. Using “BEEcause, BEEing, BEEhaving”, etc. You all know what I mean and you can't help but use a BEE pun followed by that cute little bee emoji whenever you can.

2. Emails, Emails, Emails

You can’t go a day without getting at least ten emails from the school. ResLife, Nurse Nancy, Bee Well, Student Activities, not to mention professors and coaches. The emails seem to never stop coming!

3. You complain about the caf, but still eat there anyway

We only have one cafeteria on campus, and Buzz Bucks don’t last forever. There aren’t many food places in walking distance, and, even when you find someone to drive, you realize you need to stop eating out and spending money. Deep down, even though the food isn’t always the best, you secretly like the burgers, cookies, and salad bar.

4. You have tried to take a selfie with a black squirrel at least once

You can’t help but try to take pictures with these little guys. They are brave and let you come close to them, and there are hundreds of them on campus. Snapchat stories are filled with them, too.

5. Whitey’s

Every Ambrose student’s go-to ice cream shop. Graham Central Station, Moose Tracks, and White Tiger Paws just to name a few amazing flavors. Everyone loves their shakes, and, if you order it with a lid, you are doing it wrong!

6. You’ve been to Rookies

Everyone loves Dollar Burgers and Bottles, and you have found yourself eating the popcorn. You also have taken a picture with the blue wall at homecoming.

7. Wi-Fi Problems

Slow Wi-Fi is an understatement. Switching from "Public" to "Student" gets so old.

8. Being friends with athletes is normal

You know someone on almost every sports team. You also feel like everyone is involved in some sort of sport.

9. Only knowing a few streets in Davenport

Locust, Gaines, Brown, Lombard, Brady, Harrison, Kimberly, and 3rd Street. You learn quickly that these are the few you need to know.

10. Living in Campus Housing isn't that bad

Having your own bathroom is nice and all your friends are close by. Plus, you are right on campus.

11. Tons of Activities

There are so many fun things to do on campus. Athletics, clubs, groups, Dance Marathon to name a few. It is easy to get involved and impossible to say there is nothing to do. If you do absolutely nothing, chances are you aren't a student here. Everyone on campus seems to be involved in some sort of activity.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
