11 Reasons Why My Mom Will Always Be My Best Friend

The older I grow, the more I realize that my mom is the BEST best friend I'll ever have.

11 Reasons Why My Mom Will Always Be My Best Friend
Christopher Pennisi

I don't know how I got so lucky with a mom I can easily call my best friend for life. Here are all the reasons why she's the best friend a girl could ask for. I love you Mommy!

1. She's always there to make me laugh.

I don't think there's a time I laugh harder than when I'm with my mom. Whether we're making fun of something the other one said, or just laughing because of how hard the other is laughing, I can't even tell you the amount of times tears have streamed down my face with her next to me. Speaking of tears...

2. She's a shoulder to cry on.

I know that whatever the issue, if I need to cry I can go to my mom. She will never judge me and she understands sometimes girls just need to let out a good cry. From homework problems to boy troubles, she is always there for a hug and a tissue or two.

3. Whenever there's new gossip, she's the first one I tell.

She knows who's dating who, who broke up with who, and who is mad at who and why. I can gossip with my mom as if she was my age, and she gets just as surprised as I do when this girl asks this guy out or this one cheats on the other one. Also, don't you dare do me wrong because you bet me and my mom will be talking about you after.

4. She makes the perfect shopping buddy.

She won't lie and tell me I look good in something if it really doesn't flatter my figure. And on the other hand, she won't stop complimenting me when I find just the right fit.

5. I can talk with her for hours.

Sometimes, when I just call her for something quick, it turns into a long conversation and I'm not complaining! We talk about everything together. The nights where we sit on the living room couch and watch TV and just talk are my favorite nights.

6. We can sit in silence and it will be okay.

I never feel obligated to start a conversation when my mom is around. We both understand that sometimes we need quiet. We are just as comfortable talking all night as we are sitting together with nothing to say, and that is okay.

7. I can trust her with all of my secrets.

My mom knows more than some of my best friends do about me. I know I can confide in her when it comes to absolutely anything, and I am beyond grateful for that.

8. She can read my mind. Literally.

Maybe not literally, but pretty damn close. Even when we're in different places, we do this creepy (but so cool) thing where we both think the same thing at the same exact time. Or when we are together, one of us will say something and the other will follow with, "Oh my god, I was JUST thinking that!" Or on the more secretive side, when we're out and we have something to say to each other but can't say it out loud, we know what the other person is trying to say by just using facial expressions. I think this is a superpower, honestly.

9. We have countless inside jokes.

Whether it's something that happened just yesterday or five years ago, we can always laugh like idiots at our own secret jokes that we share.

10. Simple tasks are fun when she's around.

We can be taking a trip to the supermarket for ingredients for dinner and I'm having a good time.

11. I would be lost without her.

She reminds me of little important things, like an assignment I left on the table or to bring an umbrella 'cause it's raining. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have her, and I really mean that.

As I grow older each year I begin to realize more and more just how lucky I am to have a mother like you. I can't imagine life without you and I hope you know just how much you mean to me. I love you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
