8 Pros And Cons Of Living In Logan Hall
JSU Housing

I am currently a freshman at Jacksonville State University where I study Graphic Design and Photography. I live in Logan Hall which is an all female dorm. Here are just a few things I have learned to like and dislike about Logan Hall.

1. Pro: Private Bathroom

Ok, no one likes sharing a bathroom with twenty other people, especially not when it's girls. Not dissing my own gender, but girls can get messy and dramatic. I have talked to many people that live in some of the dorms with community bathrooms and they say it's not too bad. They say this, but I didn't really want to find out for myself. Having your own bathroom means more privacy for you and you only have to share it with one other person.

2. Con: Private Bathroom

The only real con to having a private bathroom in college is that you have to clean it yourself. This can actually be a pro too because I've heard that the community bathrooms don't get cleaned as much as they're supposed to, so...

3. Pro/Con: Visitation Hours/Curfew

In Logan Hall, we don't have visitation hour restrictions or a curfew. Now, this can be a good or bad thing. We don't have a curfew which allows us to be out and come back whenever we want. That can be good because if we had a curfew some people wouldn't have a place to stay some nights. Some nights people literally stay up and study in the library all night, especially during finals week. College is more than partying guys. On to the visitation hours: we can have any gender come to our dorm at any time of the night or day, from 10 am to 2 am. The visitor only has one priority and that is to sign in at the front. Not too bad, right? This can be a pro because that means family and friends can come whenever they need/want to. Say for instance it's 3 am and your best friend needs you, well at other dorms they wouldn't be able to see you, but here at Logan they could drive on over and have a chat. The downside is that it can get pretty loud in the halls when girls are coming in at 1 am. I don't know about y'all but I'm usually asleep at 1 am and I'd like to keep it that way.

4. Con: Heating/Air

Basically, it's hot all year round because the air and heat are on the same unit. One of my fellow creators wrote an entire article on this (https://www.theodysseyonline.com/temperature-outsi...) go check it out and learn more about our heating and air issues. My roommate and I have had a fan on all year, even when it was freezing outside. We can't control our unit, so don't even try.

5. Pro: Room Size

The rooms are actually relatively large. No, we don't have as much storage space as Fitz or Curtiss, but that's due to the private bathroom. I even went out and bought a bookshelf because of the amount of space I had. The room includes a wardrobe, a desk, and a bed. The bed is adjustable, so you can have all of that storage space. The wardrobe has multiple drawers and hanging space, and a shelf for other items. The desk as an above shelf, multiple drawers, and of course the desk top. Although we don't have all the built-in storage, we do have plenty of it in the end.

6. Pro: Parking

There is plenty of parking space at Logan Hall. Front, back, side. Anywhere.

7. Con: No Kitchen

Yeah, there's no kitchen, but what dorm has one? This can be different for everyone depending on if you like to cook or not.

8. Con: Hot Water

OMG! There is no hot water to shower with! I cannot tell you how many times I showered in cold water. I don't know about y'all, but I take and like hot showers year round, especially in the winter. We don't have that. I shower and sometimes about five minutes before I get out the water will turn semi warm. I'm not sure if all the dorms are like this or not, but we are! I hate it! I need hot water!

Thanks for reading! I hope this helped any incoming female JSU students make their housing decision.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
