An Open Letter To My Sorority Sisters

Moving into college is not an easy step to take in life. Living in a strange dorm, not knowing anybody and having to cope with being away from friends and family who you’re used to seeing regularly. My first year was full of different struggles, but the feeling of homesickness was one that was most daunting. I desperately wanted to find that feeling of “home” at school and feel the same support I did with my family. I searched constantly for some source of comfort within my school that I got when I was back home, but it wasn’t until I found Greek life that I became hopeful.

Rushing my sorority was one of the best decisions I have made and ever will make during my time at college. By joining this sisterhood, I was able to find the source of comfort and support that I needed. I met amazing women that inspire me and entertain me daily, ones that I may never have crossed paths with if I hadn’t decided to give Greek life a try.

So to all of my sisters, thank you. Thank you for taking the time to welcome me into your community and making me feel at home. Thank you for really taking the time to get to know me, and allowing me to have the privilege of getting to know all of you. You have made my life at college exponentially better, and I can only hope that I have done for you what you have done for me.

To my pledge sisters, you’ll always have a special place in my heart. The bond we forged through the pledging process is one that I will never get to share with anyone else, and one that I would never want to share with anyone else. There are so many amazing memories that we’ve made, whether it be all of the pledge tasks we were asked to complete, or all of the studying and stressing we did together. Though we had some rough days, I wouldn’t trade it for the world and it’s because of you, my wonderful pledge sisters.

To my Big — you were my rock through pledging and I know you’ll continue to be a source of support for me in the future. The night that you were revealed as my Big will forever be one of the best nights ever and an amazing college memory. You have made my time in this sisterhood so special simply because of your presence. I couldn’t ask for anyone better to have as my guide, mentor, and friend.

Thank you to all of my sisters for accepting me, my flaws and all, and taking me in as one of your own. I’ve never met a more amazing group of woman. I only hope that I can do the sisterhood justice. Thank you for being an unconditional source of support and comfort for me. You’ve made me stronger during some of my more difficult times. Thank you for all of the amazing memories and adventures we’ve shared. Some of most enjoyable and amusing nights have been the ones I have shared with all of you. While we’ve definitely had our share of crazy and emotional moments, they’ve only helped me grow. I can’t wait to continue to make lasting memories with you. I love you all. Sisters forever.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
