Everyone knows that college students don't always dress the nicest or even care about what outfit they put together in the morning. Leggings and fuzzy socks are essential for when you plan on spending eight hours in the library, but believe it or not, college students do want to stay on top of clothing trends. Sometimes fashion week can seem like an unrealistic purchase for the average American, much less a broke college student.
Being able to relate, I have chosen some designers from 2016 New York Fashion Week that shown clothing that is fashionable, perfect for that walk to class, and is a splendid source of inspiration for all college students. Warning: financial discretion is advised if you want these exact clothes.
1. Banana Republic
Career searching students, this is the line for you. BP always presents a young, professional wardrobe. The brand did a presentation show, which is when models stand around for people to walk by and look at. That's not awkward at all, right? Why have models when you could use mannequins? The neutral color palate took over besides a few bright pieces. Suits were styled with sneakers and women's wear placed with lots of comfy layers, like jackets. These outfits are easy to throw on for that 8am internship. I think your boss would be impressed.
2. Kate Spade
The store where, we bag-obsessed girls, spend hundreds of dollars on a purse to make us feel somewhat sophisticated. If sophistication is what your looking for, than try checking out the clothes next time, especially this season. This line reminds me of Kate Middleton's fashion with structured coats, floral prints, and high necklines. Take this to inspire yourself a wardrobe fit for a princess. Oh-so classy!
3. Betsey Johnson
For those gals looking for more of an edgy, and head turner look, take a peek at this designer's line. Her clothes are super extravagant and definitely make some kind of impression. She's known for her crazy attitude and putting her personality into all her clothes. I'm not saying prance around campus in these exact outfits, because that would be social suicide, but look at the individual pieces themselves. Johnson previewed the upcoming Rubik's cube trend that you'll see in a lot of clothes this upcoming season.
4. Alexander Wang
The 90's are back!! Wallabees are here to prove it. Known for exotic and raunchy prints, college students everywhere already take inspiration from big name designers similar to Wang by wearing illicit themed clothing. This generation and its open-mindedness, acceptance, and protest is captured in Wang's clothes using graphics such as marijuana leaves and cliche sayings. These styles are very relaxed and give off the "idc" vibe which is what most of us already give off wearing the same clothes as last night, so why not try a tiny bit more?
5. J.Crew
Things were blossoming and bright at this season's J.Crew with plenty of pink to spare. The fall's collection is very feminine, along with some men's wear to offset the sweetness. One thing I took from this show is the textures. It's not all about graphics, textures are an aspect always available to spice up your wardrobe. Adding a fur coat (not real fur of course, save our animals) or wearing corduroy instead of jeans. Pajamas were also featured in this show, giving off a fun, young, emphasis on Somsack Sikhounmuong's colorful designs as they came to life.Getting to class on time and studying for that biology test makes looking presentable a challenge, but just because we need a little time management doesn't mean we should lose ourselves and our fashion sense. The campus is not a runway, but every now and then, pamper yourself by refining that wardrobe. Fashion is an outlet to express yourself. Oh and don't forget to accessorize with a Starbucks cup.
Sleep is for the weak and keep your fashion chic.
