Going through college when you have anxiety is a totally different game. In college, you can't go through a week without having a deadline or group project that sends you in a tailspin. In college, you can't afford to get behind and sometimes your anxiety makes you shut down and sometimes it can make you physically ill.
You can plan ahead on your big assignments and papers, have it all laid out days ahead, slowly working on it every day so you don't get overwhelmed. Then, your anxiety kicks in and you start overthinking every aspect of the assignment and you can't even think about the assignment without panicking and worrying about it.
That's when the shut-down happens.
You shut down everything and begin to sleep and feel exhausted. You don't just stop thinking about the assignment that made it happen in the first place but all of your other assignments from other classes get put on the back burner, too. Then suddenly, you have three late assignments and you get stressed out about that. Anxiety in college is a cyclical thing and it just causes more problems.
Anxiety can also make you feel so sick that you can't do anything. You don't want to get out of bed or eat and you can't handle the thought of doing anything. This puts you behind just as much as the shutting down because you can't even help it. You feel miserable and you actually want to try and do your schoolwork but the feeing of being sick nearly makes it impossible.
