In This Article:

Society tends to frown upon things that aren't mainstream. Many people seem to be unable to fathom anything that isn't done or accepted by the majority. Since they can't understand it, they criticize it. This is the case for many things, including virginity. People don't shy away from talking about virginity, but many have a tendency to misrepresent virgins.

Here are five myths about virgins.

1. They are prudes

If someone hasn't had sex, it's because they don't want to... Right?

Not necessarily. Not all virgins have an aversion to physical touch. Most of them don't lack sexual desire. What sets them apart is the self-restraint that keeps them from acting on that desire. There are many reasons people decide to remain virgins: religious belief, personal preference, self-improvement, etc. Whatever the reason, it most likely doesn't fit your stereotype.

2. They have no opportunities

"You just haven't slept with anyone because no one has wanted to sleep with you."

First of all, what a rude thing to say! Second of all, it's probably not true! That implies that the second someone shows interest in having sex with them, they'd be down. It's important to remember that a lot of virgins are virgins by choice and not by circumstance. For example, the other day a guy on Hinge said he likes to have sex, and I told him I wouldn't be willing to do that. That conversation ended real quick.

3. They aren't qualified for relationships

For a lot of people, virginity is a turnoff. Some guys won't even consider dating a girl who's a virgin. People place a lot of importance on sexual experience. Someone who isn't experienced in that area is somehow less desirable. Why? Does that mean they have a bad personality? No. Does it mean they don't like to have fun? No. Does it mean they have nothing to offer? Of course not! Being a virgin doesn't make someone any less qualified to be in a relationship. There are more important things than sex, people. Get your heads out of the gutter!

4. They are selfish

How dare virgins withhold sex from their partners? That's not fair! People have needs!

You're right, we do. That's why virgins are actually incredibly selfless. You never hear a virgin complain about not having their needs met. Why not? Because they have already accepted that truth. They have no expectations from anyone. If they want their needs met, they have to do it themselves. It's actually quite efficient.

5. They are teases

"Just because they're a virgin doesn't make them innocent. They're such a tease!"

Flirty virgin is not an oxymoron, but you shouldn't mistake flirting for interest in something more. It is possible for a virgin to like you without wanting to have sex with you. If you think they're teasing you, you're probably wrong. Even if they are, that doesn't give you permission to make a move on them. Chances are they don't have any ulterior motives (unlike you).

I hope I've been able to clear up some common misconceptions about virgins. We get a bad rep, but we're pretty great. Take the time to get to know us, and I'm sure you'll agree. Also, you'll know that if we like you, it's not just for your body. If you don't want us to like you just because of your body, then please don't dislike us just because of what we choose to do with ours.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
