Multiple Myeloma Awareness Month

Hidden Cancers Need Attention

Multiple Myeloma Awareness Month

Every month it seems like there is always a cancer being recognized to help get money donated to it's research foundation for the specific cancer. Like October is Breast Cancer Awareness; in September its Childhood Cancer Awareness, and etc. However, looking at the American Cancer Society and its Cancer Awareness Calendar there is no Multiple Myeloma written down for the month of March, which is upsetting. There are probably other cancers being hidden to, but the American Cancer Society probably only list the most common cancers that are seen commonly. However, this is still upsetting, there are many cancers that no one really knows about or has a clue on what they are.

Multiple Myeloma is a bone marrow cancer that begins in plasma cells, a type of white blood cell. These cells are part of your immune system, which helps protect the body from germs and other harmful substances. In time, myeloma cells collect in the bone marrow and in the solid parts of bones. This cancer has affected many people but this hits close to home. When I was in 4th grade my dad got diagnosed with this Multiple Myeloma. My dad went through two bone marrow transplants once in my fourth grade year and another in my junior year of highschool. I have seen my dad in the hospital and going into ambulances which was scary for sure. My dad is a cancer survivor. From getting two relapses of Multiple Myeloma, and has been fighting this cancer for 9 to 10 years; he is for sure a fighter.

Having a loved one with cancer is tough especially when it a dad. A bone marrow transplant is a bone marrow or cord blood transplant that replaces unhealthy blood-forming cells with healthy ones. Blood-forming cells are also called blood stem cells. Blood stem cells are immature cells that can grow into red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Anyways, my dad also had to go through various chemotherapy, radiation, medicines, and bone strengthening. He also has visited many doctors too. He also has to sometimes deal with plasmacytoma, which is a tumor form of the cancer. My dad went through 2 relapses of Multiple Myeloma once in my 4th grade year of elementary school and another in my junior year of highschool.

Even though he deals with all of this with positivity, he is also a leader for his support group for people who are dealing with Multiple Myeloma or have a loved one dealing with Multiple Myeloma. There are many small groups around the states, but what is wrong is that this cancer does not merely get heard like other cancers do. People who have loved ones or are fighting Multiple Myeloma have to speak out and get people's attention to get donations in hope to get money for research and to help find a cure. Every year in March it's Multiple Myeloma month. You can only see this on social media especially as since it's seen on Facebook! However there is no information about Multiple Myeloma. There is also no donation information on where you can donate money to help raise awareness for it.

People around the globe need to realize that there are many cancers that do not get awareness. The most common cancers do get recognition especially Leukemia, Lymphoma, Breast Cancer, Childhood Cancer, and etc..Every month that passes by I am shocked at the amount of cancer's that never get recognized or get recent donations. I think we need to change that! Every time March comes around, make a donation to https://www.myeloma.org/ . We should raise awareness for Multiple Myeloma through social media, commercials, radios, and etc. Also It should be put in stone that March is Multiple Myeloma Awareness Month. Donating to other cancer foundations are fine too yet we should not leave out Multiple Myeloma or the other cancers that are hidden.

Next time March comes around think about Multiple Myeloma. It is not too late to donate money now to https://www.myeloma.org/. Donate now!!! Help find a cure and help research for this type of cancer. Don't ignore!!! Don't let Multiple Myeloma be hidden with the other uncommon cancers. Let's support and raise awareness to all cancers equally. Therefore, since Multiple Myeloma awareness is in March, wear a burgundy color as this is the color of the cancer awareness ribbon, or bracelet because this color supports Multiple Myeloma. In addition, Donate!!! Make it public on social media by sharing or typing "support Multiple Myeloma Awareness." If we can do this just think of all the donations we will get and the support. Let's stop hiding the not so common cancers and give each cancer a month just like the common cancers do.

Please Help Raise Awareness For Multiple Myeloma And Please Donate Now!!!

Even though it might be official Let's make it official that March is Mulltiple Myeloma Awareness Month !!!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
