World Mental Health Day is October 10, 2017 this year. I wonder how many people actually care.
Well you should. Or should at least consider thinking about Mental Health. Why? Because it really is a fatal illness that affects 1 in 5 adults ever year. That's ALOT.
Mental Illnesses include but are not limited to:
-Post-traumatic stress disorder
-Obsessive-compulsive disorder
-Antisocial Personality Disorder
-Binge Eating Disorder
-Borderline Personality Disorder
-Schizophrenia
-Depression
-Bipolar Disorder
-Generalized Anxiety Disorder
The list is endless.
So what can you do to help someone with a mental illness and what can that person do to help themselves?
-Educate yourself about the illness
-Seek out resources
-Have realistic goals/expectations
-Talk to a loved one
-Talk to a therapist
-Know your limitations
-Draw
-Pet a dog
-Recognize your feelings
-Try and stay calm
-Go for a walk
-Write out your feelings
-Try and be hopeful
These are simple things to help cope with a mental illness. I hope people in the world can become more understanding of a mental illness because it really is painful to have.
