Why Listicles Suck: A Listicle

So, no real surprise here. Everyone who can write understands the convenience and minimal amount of mental capacity required to create a listicle. Holding the reader's attention for less than 2 minutes is ideal, complete with cute photos and the occasional "omg same." Also, they're incredibly convenient when you are almost 12 hours late on your deadline (sorry Josh). Anyways, here's my listicle about why you probably hate listicles.

1. You probably don't actually relate, it's just vague enough to make you think so.

Are me and my friends really like this? Does everyone in my hometown really think this way?

2. Is the list in any order of importance? If you read it backwards, will it still make sense?

I must know which way to read this so as to not spoil anything for myself.

3. Is there a standard number for said list in a listicle? How long should they be? You don't really want to spend more time reading one than I should.

Really, I have things to do.

4. If it were in article form, you probably wouldn't read it (I know I've lost the 75% of you who thought you'd be seeing photos of puppies or something about your sisterhood).

OMG MY FRIENDS YAY.

5. So. Boring. Unless they contain photos of puppies or anecdotes about your sisterhood or hometown.

OMG MY FRIENDS YAAAAAAAAAAAY.

6. Anything you decide to read on the toilet out of convenience is not worth your time reading.

Nothing read on the toilet should have a positive impact on your life. Except my other articles, they're great shit-reads. But not this one. Don't read this on the toilet.

7. Is this bullet just a last gasp effort to extend the list?

Yes.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
