I played volleyball for many, many years. I played year-round and my only break was a week around Christmas, if I was lucky. Up until college, volleyball was my life. It was the best and worst time of my life, and I'll never forget it. I still have a soft spot in my heart for the people I played with, and we'll always be friends, no matter how many miles lay between us.
Volleyball changes you and it changes your life. Not only do you make the best friends you could possibly imagine, but you also make the best memories you'll ever have.
1. It is perfectly OK to hit hard
I mean, who doesn't love getting out your anger by hitting an innocent ball?
2. There is no feeling like improving your vertical
Volleyball players work hard to improve their vertical literally every day of the year. When someone compliments you on how high you jump, it feels like floating.
3. You can use any part of your body to deflect
Volleyball is basically the game "don't let the balloon touch the floor," but a lot more hardcore.
4. Blocking is much more than a click on Facebook
You can't yell "Roof" after clicking a button.
5. Claim your territory
The eternal struggle of yelling "mine" louder than the next person is all too real. You either collide or the ball drops if you don't call.
6. Always do your stretching
Your poor muscles will thank you.
7. Don't be the one to shank the ball
Otherwise, you'd better be prepared to pay the consequences.
8. The squat game is real
And if you fell back on your heels, there will be someone to tell you about it.
9. Your legs look fabulous in knee pads
Well, not usually. But love who you are and how your knees look without bruising.
10. Group hugs are the best
There's nothing like getting together in one big sweaty hug to celebrate a point.
11. Your team is your family
They're your best friends, your teammates, and your family.
Volleyball is for life.
