Bad days are real and they happen to everyone. The worst part is that they happen out of the blue with no warning signs and no real reason. Sometimes it can feel like the world is crumbling under your feet and you have no idea what you did to deserve a day like this.
Your self-esteem hits the floor. You feel alone in a room full of people. You hear news that you thought would never come your way. And just when you thought it could not possibly get worse, it does. A million times worse…
It’s hard to get out of that funk you feel when you wake up on the wrong side of the bed. I’ve had my fair share of bad days and here’s what I’ve learned:
1. Get it out.
Cry it out. Get the day out of your system. Find someone you trust, a friend, a family member, a therapist, or even a teacher, and tell them what’s on your mind. Let them know you are having a rough day and talk about what may be bothering you. HUG THEM. Just knowing that someone is there for you can put a smile on your face.
2. Exercise.
Working out is not only a distraction, but it is one of the best things you can do for your mind and body. Exercise gives you endorphins which boost your mood. Even just 20 minutes of cardio can make you feel better.
3. Treat yourself.
Take yourself to your favorite coffee shop. If you love animals, take yourself to an animal shelter and cuddle with puppies. Go shopping and buy yourself something that you look hella bomb in and then rock it. Buy some new art supplies and paint a motivational canvas.
4. Get outside.
Take a walk outside or do your homework on the lawn. Vitamin D is good for you and your mood!
5. Sing in the shower.
Make a playlist that has both throwbacks and pump-up jams and then go blast it in the shower. You have no idea how amazing you will feel after, both physically and emotionally.
6. Laugh.
Watch a comedy on Netflix or a movie that makes you laugh. Hang out with friends that lift you up and bring out the best in you.
If it wasn’t for bad days, we would never know what the good days are. Sometimes bad days can surprise you and become a learning experience. In the end, the good days will outnumber the bad and that day where you cried yourself to sleep will just be a vague memory.
