As we are going into a month of school, some incoming freshman are probably thinking about the 'ole days' of high school and is starting to miss it. I am here to tell you that it is okay that you are either starting to, or already is, missing high school. Even though I am just missing it just a little bit, I can honestly say I miss my high school, although there are some things that I can live without that happen at my high school:

-8:00am to 5:00pm then 7:45-4:36 school days, even though this have taught me that sleep is a valuable thing and that I have the experience to handle a 9 hour job if I ever get that opportunity.
-Uniforms, I do miss being able to wear what I want. My uniform consists of khakis, blue dress pants, blazers when I was a junior and senior, white blouses or white button down shirt and dress shoes. Now that I can wear jeans and gym shoes, I can't go back.
-Lunch, even though on them certain days they be having good food, now I am eating real food
-High school petty drama, how much drama I have witness and etc, I am in college now so if there is some type of drama that happens, I won't know about it and that is a very good thing
-With my school still being consider 'new', we didn't have a gym just a work out room
-Coming home at either 5:30 or 6:30 since I did after school activities. This did limit me from my homework time with the distance I'm walking from my bus stop to home or how long it takes by car to get me home

Even though I kind of listed a bunch of negatives about how I don't miss high school, there are some things that I miss about it that will probably take months in college for me to find a replacement for it:

-I have been so used to a cramp schedule, meaning I had classes back to back and the only break I had was for Skills Boost, my high school version of study hall, and Lunch. Now that I am in college and my classes are either spread out throughout the day, Wednesdays for me, or I only take 1, 2 or 3 classes, I have so much free time that sometimes I just don't know what to do with it. I have gotten better at my time management when it comes to homework so that's not that big of an issue for me.
-The friends that I have made in high school I really do miss. Some of them I have known since they were in preschool, 2nd and 7th grade. Time really do move on fast because they are all seniors now going through the same process that I went through when I was a senior myself.
-Knowing at the end of the day I am coming home to my house to relax in my bed and work on homework. With college, depending if you commute or not, you are coming back to your dorm getting started on homework. This could also relate to being 'homesick' since my high school was only five minutes from my house, 10 if there was a train.
-the bonds that I made with my high school teachers throughout my four years

In the end, it's not so bad if you miss high school, terrible experience or not. High school was a fun time and now we can move on and start our new lives in college.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
