If Your Parents Visit You At Bama...
Grace Gilbert

It's that time of year again: Greek parents' weekends are in full swing and we wouldn't have it any other way! Because seriously, what could be more fun than taking your parents to a darty? Even though you are on your own now (sort of/not really lol) sometimes it can be a much-needed break to have a piece of home come to your second home. This time of year makes me think of all the great memories my parents and I have made at Bama so far. I can't believe we are halfway done after this year (unless I decide to take a victory lap).

My parents were artsy and went to NYU, so they never got the full college-out-of-a-movie-experience, so they've spent a lot to time visiting me and embracing their chance to have one. They are obsessed with Game Days, The Quad and everything Alabama!

My joy in picking this school skyrockets whenever I get to share it with them.

If your parents visit you at Bama...

... They'll probably be really excited.

When they're excited, they will want to say "Roll Tide" to everyone they see. Think of it as cute, and let them have their fun.

When they visit, you'll have to take them to Another Broken Egg. And if you take them to Another Broken Egg, they'll probably want to take a walk on the Riverwalk.

Then they will want to come back for a football game.

When they go to the Football Game, they might notice Gallette's.

So they'll probably ask to go get Yellow Hammers.

When they've finished trying Yellow Hammers, they will want to go somewhere else.

They will go to Rounders with you. They will be disgusted, intrigued and having a blast all at the same time.

Then, your mom will point out every decent looking guy who appears to be close to 6 feet tall and ask why you're not dating him.

And while she does that, your dad will chat up random people at the bar as if he is trying to embarrass you. Even though it's hard to believe, he's probably not. Just let him do his own thing.

They might get carried away even though it's the middle of the day.

They may even wind up going to Innisfree as well, and fall in love with the famous Pub Fries.

When they're done, they will probably want to take a nap.

You'll have to take them back to their hotel because Bama is too much to handle.

They'll crawl in, make themselves comfortable and fluff the pillows a few times.

They'll probably ask you if they can come back for Greek Parents weekend.

So you'll tell them about how much you can't wait for them to meet your sorority friends at that weekend, and they'll ask to see pictures.

When they look at the pictures, they will get so excited that they will make their travel plans immediately.

Then your mom will want to do your laundry.

Which means your dad will go to the ATM to make sure he has cash to give you when he leaves, even though you know where all the ATMs are.

Along his way, your dad will buy you a new Bama T-shirt.

Looking at you in the T-shirt will remind him that you've grown up quite a lot.

So... he'll ask for an extra big hug goodbye.

And chances are if your parents visit you at Bama, you'll be counting down the days till they come back.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
