How To Succeed Your 8 A.M. Without Really Trying

In the morning, there's a huge difference between 6:00 and 6:10.

Getting up early for an 8 a.m. class sure isn't easy. Classes at 8 a.m. are one of the classes that make every student cry. However, one of the pros of having an 8 a.m. class is that you get it over with. Here are 10 ways to succeed every 8 a.m. class without really trying (yes, the title is inspired by the musical):

1. Prepare your outfit the night before

You won't have to worry about tossing clothes out of the drawers or your wardrobe since it will make you even more stressed at this un-gosh-ly hour.

2. Blast some music!

According to studies, playing some tunes in the morning sends happy hormones to your brain and motivates you. Just don't wake your roommate up if you have one!

3. If you're a gym junkie, go for a jog

Or any exercise you want. Exercise gives you endorphins. Enphorins make you happy. Happy people just don't tell themselves "I cannot go to my 8 a.m." (Where are my "Legally Blonde" fans at for this one?).

4. Keep your alarm away from your bed

If you kept your alarm close to your bed, you have a higher chance of shutting your alarm off and falling back asleep. This will cause you to miss class and this is the last thing you want to happen. Keeping your alarm away from you will kept you get out of bed, turn it off, and get ready for the day.

5. Drink your H2O

EVERYONE. STAY. HYDRATED. No questions asked. No objections.

6. Try to go to bed early

There may not be a right answer for how many hours we need, however, get at least 8 hours of sleep.

7. Pose like a superhero

"A scientific study showed that if you stand in the superhero pose for 5 minutes before a job interview, presentation or difficulty task, you will not only feel more confident you will perform measurably better." - Amelia Shepherd

8. If you don't like to eat first thing in the morning, at least eat some fruit

Going to class with an empty stomach will most likely allow you to zone out more. At least eat some fruit, so it can hold you over throughout your morning class.

9. For the love of Aurora... DO. NOT. OVERSLEEP!

As much as we all love sleeping, weekends are for sleeping in. Oversleeping isn't worth it on a school day and so is missing class.

10. Or next semester, if possible, don't take 8 a.m. classes

You have enough on your plate such as studying, meeting professors during office hours, working, club meetings, and other college things.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
