If you are anything like me, you know the bare minimum when it comes to basketball. My knowledge extends to knowing the difference between a 2-pointer and a 3-pointer and I am only interested in the sport when it's my team on the court. So when March Madness rolls around every year and all my friends are filling out their brackets, I have no empirical knowledge or statistics to help me choose who will make it to the Final Four. But since I am not a betting women, it's all for fun!
So how do you choose your champion?
1. Your Own Team
If you are lucky enough to see you university on the bracket (it's ok Pitt, I'm not mad, just disappointing) then of course you have to have them make it to the very end. What kind of fan would you be if you didn't?
2. Proximity
Maybe you went to school out of state but will always have a soft spot for your home state's school. These schools should always make it to at least the Sweet 16.
3. Name Recognition
Oh, UNC? That's a big school, they will probably make it pretty far. If I haven't heard of the school, how good at basketball can you be?
4. The Mascot
10 times out of 10 I will advance a team because I like their mascot. Go UConn! Go Huskies!
5. Cool Name
Villanova. Kinda sounds like a super hero. Or a villain? Who knows.
6. Been there Before
I toured UVA back in my senior year. They had a nice campus.
7. The Underdog
Who doesn't love a good underdog story? You can't have a good bracket without picking a few surprising upsets. Let's have Webster State beat Gonzaga.
