With the busy lifestyles we all have, it's important to find time for yourself. Even through the excuses and the time we spend trying to find actual dates, a date with ourselves for one hour a week could be the trick to ease all the stressors we have.
To start, pick one morning, afternoon or evening a week that you can commit to. Finding one steady time with yourself helps prevent excuses and makes sure the time you need, and want is available. I chose Saturday afternoons to give myself a little something extra at the end of the work week.
Next, pick a place that you can enjoy. It doesn’t necessarily have to be somewhere that you’ve been to before, because trying new places can’t hurt. A Starbucks in my town is my favorite. Don’t put off the day you choose to start because the sooner you start taking time for yourself, the better off you’ll be.
After selecting your time and place, pick something to do! Something that you find relaxing that is completely unrelated to work, finances or school. Making sure it is manageable outside your own home doesn’t hurt either.
After consideration for all of these things -- go! One hour for yourself per week may seem like a lot especially with things like work and school but it will help keep you grounded. Whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert, it's simple to find enjoyment in some time by yourself. If you’re like me and think that a shower is relaxing enough, this is something worth trying.
It doesn’t need to cost you anything, either! If you choose to have dinner by yourself or something similar though, that’s even better. I allow myself to spend five dollars on the biggest coffee Starbucks can offer me and it helps me feel like not only am I having the perfect date with myself but I’m also treating myself without breaking the bank. Don’t let yourself write off these dates as another to-do, and remember, the sooner the better!
