An Open Letter To My Best Friend From Home

You could never be replaced.

An Open Letter To My Best Friend From Home

Remember when we would stay up until the ungodly hours of the night playing CoD and Hamsterball?

Remember when we put 300 plastic eggs in Sorrel’s locker for her to unleash in the hallway the next morning?

Remember when I tripped you in math class while you were in a full-out sprint? You probably should have punched me in the face, but instead, we laughed til we cried.

I often find myself reminiscing on the memories we made over the years and I wish you were there at college to share each new experience with me. I know they say you shouldn't go to college with your best friend, but I think it would have been pretty rad.

Even though we didn't end up going to the same college, you’re pretty much here anyway. I mean, I talk about you enough, and all my friends know you on a first-name basis. Heck, you’re even friends with some of my college friends on social media.

Although we are 1,377 miles away from each other for 90 percent of the year, and even though I moved away from you, you’re still my best friend and you always will be. We graduated together, held down the outfield for four years, spent the last six years creating memories and causing chaos, and built a friendship that I couldn't be more thankful for.

My friends in college are great (you really are, guys. I love you to death.) But there’s something special about a hometown friend. Nobody gets me quite like you do. We’re the perfect fit. You’re a little bit country, and I’m a little bit girly. You’re a little bit crazy, and I’m more follow-the-rules. You’re outgoing and personable, and I’m more shy and reserved. Even though we’re opposites in many ways, we’re exactly the same. We have the same sense of humor, we both hate chemistry, and we both have a deep love for chickfilog dates (Chick-fil-A then Sweet Frog).

Life is unpredictable and will take us in a million different directions, but what gives me peace of mind is knowing I’ll always have you in my life no matter what. We could go weeks without talking and months without seeing each other, but we always pick up right where we left off.

I couldn't have survived high school, or life in general, without you. You always give the best advice, have the best listening ear, and we always go on the best adventures. I guess that’s why they call it best friends.

You have made me into a stronger, more confident person throughout the years. You’re doing it right now, without you even knowing it. I see you out there, pursuing your dreams and making a difference in the lives of everyone you meet. You inspire me to be a better and more successful person every day through your actions. Everyone deserves someone like you in their life, and I’m lucky enough to have met such an amazing person all those years back.

Just know that there isn't one day that I don’t think of you or don't miss you. I can’t wait until we are reunited again, and again, and again. Until then, keep doing great things. I love you!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
