Highlights Of Hillary Clinton's Concession Speech

"Our campaign was never about one person, or even one election. It was about the country we love and building an America that is hopeful, inclusive, and big-hearted."

QUARTZ

Hillary Clinton did not win the presidential race, but she inspired millions of Americans to vote for what was right and to fight against racism, sexism, bigotry, xenophobia, and much more. As expected, her concession speech was graceful and empowering. Although I appreciated her entire speech, I picked out 11 of my favorite parts from here. (Though I have so many quotes that it basically sums up her entire speech, anyways.)

1. "This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for, and I'm sorry we did not win this election for the values we share and the vision we hold for our country. But I feel pride and gratitude for this wonderful campaign that we built together. This vast, diverse, creative, unruly, energized campaign. You represent the best of America, and being your candidate has been one of the greatest honors of my life."

2. "Our campaign was never about one person, or even one election. It was about the country we love and building an America that is hopeful, inclusive, and big-hearted."

3. "Our constitutional democracy demands our participation, not just every four years, but all the time. So let's do all we can to keep advancing the causes and values we all hold dear."

4. "I've had successes and setbacks and sometimes painful ones. Many of you are at the beginning of your professional, public, and political careers -- you will have successes and setbacks too."

5. "This loss hurts, but please never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it."

6. "And to all the women, and especially the young women, who put their faith in this campaign and me: I want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion."

7. "I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but someday someone will."

8. "And to all of the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams."

9. "I still believe, as deeply as I ever have, that if we stand together and work together with respect for our differences, strengthen our convictions, and love for this nation, our best days are still ahead of us."

10. "I believe we are stronger together and we will go forward together. And you should never, ever regret fighting for that."

11. "My friends, let us have faith in each other, let us not grow weary and lose heart, for there are more seasons to come and there is more work to do."

This election did not turn out the way I had hoped it would, and Hillary was not my ideal choice during the primaries. But I am grateful to have had this woman be my candidate, and I am proud to be with her.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
