Despite what the media tries to tell you about being “healthy,” it’s what you perceive of it yourself. Healthy isn’t a certain weight, healthy is about doing your best, looking how you want to look and feeling great about yourself and your body. There are so many bad examples in the media today of how someone should look, but we’re all different! I think working on being happy and satisfied with you is much better than working towards the goal to look like someone else. I’m going to share with you a few ways I like to stay healthy and happy with my body!
1. Drink More Water
If anyone hates drinking water, it’s me. I am the absolute worst at remembering to drink it and I never drink enough of it because it doesn’t taste like anything! Who’s with me? I have found a secret though (and lucky for you, I’m sharing!). Not only does adding lemons and frozen fruit (as ice cubes) help your water taste so much better, but putting it in a fun cup, with a fun straw helps me drink so much more water. I encourage you to try the same! If you’re not getting your adequate amount of water everyday try using some fruit or a fun cup! I’d love to know if it works just as well for you…but I’m sure it will!
2. Do Something You Love
Why exercise and do something you hate? Doing a form of exercise you enjoy doing will not only make you more motivated to go, but you’ll have more fun doing it. If you hate going to the gym, then don’t. Find home exercises, or go for a walk around your community. Love to dance? Find a local dance studio or a Zumba studio. You’ll be amazed at what you can find in your area that you love to do!
3. Eat Breakfast
Despite how hungry, or not hungry, you are in the morning, don’t skip breakfast! Breakfast jump starts your metabolism in the morning and gives you enough energy to battle the first few hours of your day. If you skip breakfast, the only thing your body has to work on is your dinner from the previous night. You don’t have to make yourself a fancy breakfast, but just something to help your body out. It’s been shown that those who don’t eat breakfast tend to eat (and binge eat) more throughout the day than those who do eat breakfast.
4. Don't Deprive Yourself
This is my most important tip of all…don’t limit or deprive yourself! There are so many diets and trends out there right now that limit what you can consume. Whether that is no sugar, no chocolate, no dairy, no chips and no whatever it may be. But what does that do to your body? It puts it into shock. You’ve been consuming dairy for 20 years and then all of a sudden you’re not. Your body is like “what is happening?” Moderation is key here, if you want to cut back on a guilty pleasure such as chocolate, try moderating it. Eat a little piece after dinner, not the whole chocolate bar. If you want some chips…eat some chips! Not every day for every meal but you can treat yourself!
Trust me, I’m no professional…however I use these tips in my everyday life to be the best and healthiest me I can be! I hope some of my tips help you as well.
