Greeks Moving Forward: The Tri-Delta Song

This week, I'm coming to you as a senior sorority member here at LSU. As many of you have already heard, read and got frustrated with the Tri-Delta Song, I'm here to serve as a reminder.

So here are my thoughts on the matter:

1. The song itself was despicable. We all know that sororities have their “songs,” but this one was written down and written recently. I think the biggest issue that our community has had with it stems from how personalized the song was towards specific sororities. I think had it not been so specific, so many parties would not have been as greatly offended.

2. The actions of those involved reflected girlish high school behavior, and I strongly believe the consequences will mirror this. That being said, this brings us to a much larger point. Women in general have a problem with gossip and slander against one another, but in our Greek community, our biggest enemy is ourselves. That my friends is truly disappointing.

Tri-Delta has already apologized for their actions and now as a Greek community, it's time for us to act like mature, responsible young women and forgive them. Forgive them and learn from our mistakes. These women that created the song were seniors, and I am damn sure they’re sorry for it. As they grow and move on from LSU, it is up to us to determine what their legacy will be.

Every sorority has had a scandal, and I suggest we look at all of our chapters and consider how we can grow and improve cohesively as a community rather than saying it was just desserts for this one sorority. I'm sure many of you have good friends in Tri-Delta and it would be immature to let your loving and kind friends suffer because of a few bad apples.

So what do we do now? As I previously said, we forgive. After we forgive, we grow. Grow so much to where we stop insinuating that ridiculous sorority stereotypes are true. Grow so much to where we actually do mean it when we say all chapters are great in their own way and everyone really does fit in best somewhere. Grow so much that we can actually look back on our conversations and be proud of what we discussed. Now, let’s come together and call it a day. We’re all Tigers, after all, and are all damn proud we don’t go to 'Bama.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
