Why Outsiders Should Love The Lone Star State As Much As Texans

If you happen to ask a Texan where they're from, they might go on for hours about their great home state. I don't blame them, I do the same thing. But I have found that everyone who isn't from Texas really hates how much Texans love Texas. Maybe it's the heat, or maybe they are just mad that whatever state they're from just can't compete. But no matter what their reason is, I am here to let you know that it is OK to love the Lone Star State. Here are 16 reasons why you should.

1. Whataburger

It's a shame that the Northern states cannot experience the greatness that is Whataburger. In addition to their amazing food, taking the order numbers is another thing that only Texans understand. Also, Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits are the only reason I get up before 11 a.m. during the summers.

2. The landscape

Texas is a beautiful state. It has canyons, beaches, endless fields and hundreds of rivers for tubing.

3. NASA

When space has a problem, they call Texans to fix it.

4. The Texas State Fair

The only place in the world you can find fried sweet tea.

5. Texas country music

Willie Nelson, George Strait, Miranda Lambert and Pat Green are all from Texas, no big deal.

6. Dr. Pepper

If Texas could have an official drink, it would be Dr. Pepper. Every Texan knows the feeling when you hear the words, "We don't have Dr. Pepper, is Pibb OK?"

No. It is never OK.

7. The speed limit

The only place in the country that you can legally drive 85 mph is in Texas.

8. Southern hospitality

Texans are the nicest group of people you'll ever meet. Only a Texan would invite you in for supper after knowing you a total of 10 minutes.

9. Texas pro sports

The Cowboys are America's team. The Rangers (almost) won the World Series, and the Mavericks won an NBA championship. So Texas sports are pretty great. If you disagree, please see Ranger's second baseman Rougned Odor (pictured above).

10. Blue Bell

Texans are incredibly loyal to this ice cream. Even after it was recalled, Texans eagerly awaited its return and fought to get their hands on it ASAP.

11. Everyone in Texas loves Texas.

No other state has even half as much state pride.

12. Everything is bigger in Texas, including the state itself.

Texas is the second largest state in the U.S, a 12-hour drive wide and a 13-hour drive tall. You could fit all of North and South Korea inside it (just in case you were wondering.)

13. Texas has its own song.

"The stars at night, are big and bright..."

(If you didn't clap at the end of that, then you obviously aren't from Texas)

14. You can actually see people riding their horses in public.

Yes, you might see someone ride their horse to a local Whataburger, and that is perfectly OK.

15. It was its own country.

Minnesota was just snow before it was Minnesota. Texas was its own country. Which one do you think is better?

16. Beyonce is from Texas.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
