Five Struggles of Moving Home

The dreaded week of finals is finally over, and as we start to pack up our stuff there are things to be excited about, and things we aren't too excited about. Maybe a change of scenery for a couple of months is just what we need.

1. Unpacking, moving, and unloading.

Taking all of your things down two flights of stairs, somehow packing it all into your car, driving all the way home, and then taking it all the way up to the second floor to have it be a huge mess until you find the courage to unpack everything is a struggle. Your life fits into that tiny dorm room or sorority 4-man, but it seems you came out with a lot more stuff then when you got there. The struggle is real as I look at my life in garbage bags begging to be unpacked and put away.

2. Working your life away.

When summer hits, you find a lot more time in your life and you might as well make some money, right? As good as that extra cash may feel, working every day at the "crack of dawn" (9 a.m. is early for us college students okay) is a struggle. Getting that first summer working schedule, I was feeling a little sad and missing Netflix a lot.

3. Where are my friends?

Yes, leaving your college friends is bad enough, but where are my high school friends? Some are staying in their college town for the summer taking classes, some are working their lives away as well, and some found that one college boyfriend who they just can't leave for one girls' night away. The summer excitement is so real until you get home and realize your friends don't live just in the next dorm over.

4. Making your own food.

The first day back I got up and looked at the menu for the day and finally realized, oh wait there is no cafeteria to go to. Going to go make breakfast, I looked all throughout the kitchen to just find bread and butter, so toast it is. I will be missing the made-to-order eggs, biscuits and gravy, and donuts upon donuts as far as the eye can see, all for the swipe of my student ID.

5. Boredom sets in.

Yes summer is here! Time for adventures and road trips with friends, all while getting a great tan! I think, "OMG I really have the WHOLE day tomorrow to do whatever I want to?" Then tomorrow comes and you find yourself barricaded in your room binge watching Netflix just like any other lazy day at school. Where are the tan lines and sno cones? You realize that a ton of free time just isn't as much fun as you hoped.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
