Sports, as a whole, are pretty entertaining as is, but there's always room for improvement.
Some of the changes I would want to implement would be small, while others could fundamentally change the sport, I think for the best. Just to be clear, most of these changes would be for the fan's benefit; these "improvements," would very likely be detrimental to the athletes.
The first sport I would want to improve is baseball. The first changes I would implement is the removal of wooden bats in the major leagues and replace them with metal bats. In a way, this would be safer for the fielder because they wouldn't have pieces of wood flying at them. Sure, the baseball becomes deadlier behind the swing of a metal bat being swung by a major league baseball player, but hey, what's life without a little risk?
The next change-up would be with pitching. All the pitches would need to be performed underhand. Sadly, pitchers would probably never be able to pitch a perfect game, but as far as I'm concerned, perfect games are boring.
The next sport I think could use some improving would be basketball. Let's play how I learned to play, on the streets of a safe residential neighborhood. What I mean by this is no fouls. There weren't any refs in my hood, but Mrs. Jones would bring us snacks and make sure we were being safe.
With no fouls, the game would have a much better flow to it. You wouldn't have to worry about people getting hurt because it would definitely happen. In this game, an appropriate way to block a shot is just shoving the shooter while they're taking a shot. Blocking a shot in the paint would be as easy as jumping on the shooter.
One thing I've always thought about basketball was there was too much open court. The best remedy for this would be to add five more players to the starting lineup. With 20 players on the court it would be a much more physical and exciting game.
Far too many football players over the years have developed problems from getting hit in the head too much. We all saw that Will Smith movie about concussions right? Yeah, I didn't either, but he brought up a good point.
I think the best way for the NFL to combat all these concussions is to take out tackling, and institute the two hand touch rule. With this rule, pads wouldn't be necessary so the game would be much faster. Running up the middle as a tactic would die immediately.
"Hey man I got you!"
"No way that was all shirt!"
Shirt does not count, everybody knows that.
For some sports fans out there, soccer is just a little too boring to watch. The game runs 90 minutes and it isn't out of the ordinary for a soccer match to end 0-0. I have a solution for soccer; no more goal keeper. This adjustment would result in far more goals, thus more excitement. To keep the game from getting out of control, I would suggest that any defender in the goalie box could use their hands to block a shot.
For some people these changes would be too much, and it would probably comfort them that these changes would never be implemented. But hey, crazier things have happened.
