How You Feel When You Watch The Olympic Trials

As told by "Grey's Anatomy."

As the Olympic trials commence, we as average Americans practice our USA chant and bust out the popcorn to watch our favorite athletes return to their respective fields and to spectate America's newest up and coming athletes. While tuning into the trials, feelings bubble up that can only be expressed through the wise words of the cast of “Grey’s Anatomy.”

The preliminary feeling begins with the anger we feel towards anyone not chanting USA with overbearing patriotism. Or whoever doesn’t “watch” the Olympics because they claim it's boring. It’s not about watching, it’s about living it. Some people just don’t get it.

I'm with Christina on this one.

And according to Addison, “We do not get unlimited chances to have the things we want,” unless of course you’re Michael Phelps and want to expand that 18 Olympic gold medal collection.

As the athletes steps up to start a routine, a game, a race or match, we bite our fingernails, nervousness building and hold our breath until all goes well. When they finally start, the suspense breaks and we can breathe again.

Not to mention when your favorite athlete one has an off day and doesn't make the Olympic team. While we’re happy to add talent to the team with a different athlete, it’s still pretty defeating.

Unlike when our favorite wins and we celebrate until the popcorn is on the floor and the living room turns into a happy dance take-over.

And let's just take a minute to appreciate some of the most fit people in the world (that sadly most of us will not be in the near future -- I'm talking Rio in August people). Meanwhile, we're watching them work out and getting brutally exhausted.

While the celebrations take up the majority of air time, we also experience frustration. Especially in the gymnastics world, we see judges take off major points for a little wobble on beam or a flexed foot on the floor. It’s completely ridiculous (considering they could never do that) and we enthusiasts do an eye roll that is so dramatic we fall off the couch.

Oh, and how could we possibly forget jealousy? While we want to win as many gold medals as possible, wouldn’t it be sweeter if we were winning them personally? We can’t help being a bit jealous, not only of the athletes’ physique, but of their chance to win a medal that holds eternal bragging rights (even if it’s only valued at around $500).

So as the trials continue to make and break careers, we sit back and enjoy the show, hoping to bring home the gold in August. Despite the sport you watch, there's one thing we all have in common and that's we're rooting for the greatest country in the world, the US of A. These games continue to define not only our country, but also the immense amount of athleticism across the globe.

See you in August, Rio.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
