Now that fall is officially in full swing, I thought it was time to sit down and write about my favorite season. When asked about their favorite season, most people will say summer. The warm, sunny weather coupled with the lack of classes or responsibilities is something to truly be rivaled. Some people will choose winter for the snowboarding/skiing, winter vacations, or Christmas. Others love spring for spring break, obviously, or for the incredible feeling of rising out of the freezing cold Ohio winter. For the best kinds of people, they choose fall.
Fall is the perfect time of year and a season that has something for everyone to love. The beginning of fall means moderate temperatures, where it's sometimes warm enough to wear something short, but other times it is cold enough to throw on a sweater and call it a day. The leaves start falling, which means the Oval lights up in incredible colors of orange, yellow and red. Fall weather is the perfect amount of cold where you know it's there, but it's not a nuisance.
Fall is the only time of year when it is acceptable to be excited about school. New classes, new friends, and new experiences kick off the start of school. It's nice enough to go out with your friends every weekend and to hang out on the Oval or by Mirror Lake during the week. Studying outside is normal on beautiful fall days, and seeing people out walking their dogs is always a bonus.
Adding to the fun of the best season are some of the best holidays. Halloween is a personal favorite, consisting of ridiculous amounts of social events, hilarious costumes, and great decorations. Not many college students are ever willing to spend money on decorations - unless they are for Halloween. After the craziness of Halloween comes Thanksgiving, which is a great time to enter into the greatest food coma you'll have all year, along with spending that time with family and friends. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to relax and refuel just before those distant thoughts of finals start becoming a horrifying reality.
As cliché as it may be, I have saved the best for last. We all know why fall is the best season, and it's because of college football. Nothing will ever compare to college game day. Waking up bright and early with your friends to tailgate and hanging out all day, and heading to the game to watch the Buckeyes run up the score on teams that actually thought they can beat us (looking at you, Penn State). Towards the end of fall comes the Mirror Lake Jump, and the fabled Xichigan game. The excitement and school pride of football season is something unable to be expressed by words, and you will only be able to know when you experience it first hand. If you still don't think that summer's overrated, I definitely haven't done my job.
