Although I have been driving for a couple of years now, this summer I've driven significantly more, and over a larger area, than before. So naturally, I've encountered significantly more incompetent people on the road. Here's a list of my driving pet peeves.
1. The Rusher
Living in New York, I'm used to people being in rushes all the time, even when they have no reason to be. I'm certainly guilty of trying to do everything I possibly can to avoid waiting at a red light. But there is still no excuse for beeping the moment the light turn greens, or cutting people off only to get to a red light quicker. Even when in an actual rush, there is still a respectful way to get to a destination as fast as possible without pissing everyone off.
2. The No Turn Signal
Every now and then, when no one is around you or changing lanes won't affect any one else, we might not use our turn signal and that's fine. But if there are cars driving all around you, and you turn out of nowhere causing everyone behind you to slam on their breaks to avoid an accident, you're pretty much the worst person.
3. The Elderly
I kind of feel bad writing this one, but not really. I never get annoyed at little old ladies on local streets driving slowly, but maybe it's not the smartest idea to drive on busy streets during rush hour if you don't feel comfortable driving past 10 mph. I understand the elderly might not feel safe driving a little faster, but an extremely slow speed is actually more dangerous. Plus it's the worst feeling in the world beeping at a car only to find out it's your grandma.
4. The Ungrateful
Let me just say, if we both pull up to an intersection and I wave you to go, you BETTER be waving back to thank me. I wanna see that hand or at the very least a smile. And kind of going along with this are people who refuse to let you go. For example, when you have to change lanes because the lane is closed up ahead.
5. The Biker
This goes for busy roads. If there is a professional cyclist or at least someone who looks like a legitimate biker, than go ahead and use that lane. But leisure bikers need to go and get on that sidewalk. I realize bikes are technically vehicles and sidewalks are technically for pedestrians, but I personally feel a lot safer biking on the sidewalk. It's just dangerous and aggravating for many reasons.
These are just five driving pet peeves that I've experienced this past week, but they're are probably another 50 I could add. Just reading this list gets me a little riled up because I despise these people with all my being, despite being guilty of most of these myself. And most of you are probably guilty too, which is why I didn't include pedestrians on the list, because we are all a bunch of driving hypocrites.
