I, along with many other people, absolutely love watching television. I binge watch shows on Netflix way too frequently, and I am always finding new shows that I want to watch. I become entirely too invested in the characters' lives, especially when it involves romantic relationships. Since I was younger, I have loved watching TV characters meet, fall in love, and live happily ever after (most of the time). Based on the shows I have watched, which is limited due to my mere twenty-one years of existence, here is my ranking of the top 20 couples in the history of television.
20. Emma and Killian (Captain Hook) from "Once Upon a Time"
Emma and Killian are so wonderful together. They make each other want to be better and care about each other deeply. They would do anything for one another, even if it means travelling to the Underworld. I'm so excited to see how their relationship grows as the season continues.
19. Nathan and Haley from "One Tree Hill"
He was the star basketball player, and she was his tutor soon turned cheerleader. These two balance each other out so well. They definitely had struggles in their marriage, but they made a very cute couple with an adorable little boy.
18. Ross and Rachel from "Friends"
This may seem like a low ranking for such an iconic couple, but it definitely took them a long time to end up where they needed to be. After Rachel finally got over Ross's list of her faults, Ross had to go and make a stupid mistake. This led to the much-debated topic of whether or not the two were on a break followed by a drunken Vegas marriage, an avoided annulment, and a baby. Eventually, these two got their crap together and Rachel got off the plane. But I can't deny that this scene where they first together is one of the most romantic ever.
17. Robin and Ted from "How I Met Your Mother"
Call me crazy, but I was so happy when these two ended up together. Ted knew he loved Robin from the beginning, and after having the family he always wanted, he was able to reunite with the crazy Canadian that brought out the best in him. And come on, who doesn't love the blue french horn?
16. Jim and Pam from "The Office"
Yes, I know these two should probably higher on the list. Unfortunately, I have not seen many episodes of "The Office." However, I have seen enough to know that Jim and Pam are precious. Nothing is cuter than when the girl next door and the guy next door get together. They love each other and are so excited to just live life together.
15. Nick and Jess from "New Girl"
From the beginning of the series, the chemistry between these two was evident. You just knew that the producers were going to put them together, but you didn't know when. Then it finally happened....and it didn't last nearly long enough. Hopefully these two crazy kids will get back together soon. Back off, Megan Fox.
14. Amy and Sheldon from "The Big Bang Theory"
She swoons over him. He's fairly fond of her. It's the perfect combination. From the relationship agreement to the long awaited first kiss, these two prove that love can be worth the wait. Hopefully marriage and kids will come next, but you never know with Sheldon.
13. Finn and Rachel from "Glee"
This couple sadly never had a change to reunite and marry due to the death of Cory Monteith, but these two were so sweet together on TV and in real life. They grew together in life and in love. He showed her how beautiful she really was, and she showed him how great he was at singing and as a person. These two will always hold a special place in my heart.
12. Donna and Eric from "That 70's Show"
"That 70's Show" gave us the great opportunity to watch these two grow from awkward best friends to being so in love with each other. As they explored life (and some illegal drugs) together, they grew apart and finally back together. Everyone rooted for these next door neighbors to end up together, and I'd like to think they finally got married and had a family of their own. And that Red was a super lenient grandfather.
11. Lucas and Peyton from "One Tree Hill"
It may have taken some time, but these two finally ended up together for good. Deep down they both always knew that they were meant for each other. She loved him for what was beneath the surface, and he proved to her that people don't always leave. After a beautiful wedding and having a baby, these two had the happily ever after they deserved.
10. Piper and Leo from "Charmed"
If you haven't seen "Charmed," you need to go watch it. Now. Then you'll understand how these two ended up in the top 10. They had a forbidden love from the beginning, but they eventually made it work. Even though they had a brief time apart, they eventually came back together to raise their two sons. This couple proves that, with work, true love can conquer all.
9. Kristina and Adam from "Parenthood"
Just like "Charmed," you should definitely watch "Parenthood" if you haven't yet. Kristina and Adam are the sole strong couple throughout this series. They were there for each other through all stages of life. They supported each other as they dealt with their son's mental illness, Kristina's battle with cancer, and the loss of Adam's job. They were such a normal couple and that's what makes them so appealing.
8. Mary Margaret (Snow White) and David (Prince Charming) from "Once Upon a Time"
This couple managed to find their way back to each other even after a curse that made them lose their memory. They battle together both in Storybrooke and the Enchanted Forest and then work together as parents. They have been separated countless times but have always found each other, just like they promised. And it makes it even more sweet that these actors met on the set of the show and were married in real life.
7. Leslie and Ben from "Parks and Recreation"
I was so incredibly happy when Leslie found someone to love her for the obsessive, enthusiastic, wonderful person that she was. And that person was a quirky, intelligent, and very handsome man named Ben. These two worked together and played together. They didn't limit the other and allowed each other to pursue their dreams. They proved that you can raise a family and be a power couple. And we should all seek to find someone to whom we can say, "I love you, and I like you."
6. Jesse and Becky from "Full House"
They were the couple my generation loved to watch growing up. This couple began with the iconic, "Have mercy!" and grew into so much more. From dates to an engagement to a wedding to having twins, we got to watch all the stages of this sweet couple. Jesse's song for Becky, "Forever," still runs through my head and shows how much he truly loved her. These two demonstrated love at first sight, and they were a joy to watch.
5. Lily and Marshall from "How I Met Your Mother"
From coordinating Halloween costumes to adorable nicknames, these two are the cutesy couple most people secretly want to be in. They weren't just a couple; they were best friends. Their ability to just chill with their friends or have intimate time together and have equal amounts of fun is something we all strive for. I have a feeling they will become a classic TV couple in the future.
4. Meredith and Derek from "Grey's Anatomy"
Dr. Grey and Dr. McDreamy. You couldn't help but root for these two, even when Derek's wife makes a surprise appearance. They went from hooking up as strangers in a bar to marrying each other on a Post-it and adopting a kid together. They definitely had their fair share of struggles, but these two loved each other unconditionally. Sadly, their relationship came to a tragic end, but it was incredible while it lasted.
3. Luke and Lorelai from "Gilmore Girls"
This is the best couple from what is by far my favorite TV show. Luke and Lorelai's chemistry was noticeable from the beginning, and it was worth the wait when they finally got together. When we realized Luke waited 7 years for Lorelai to give him a shot, we knew it was meant to be. These two still suffered a breakup but ended up together in the end. I am so excited to see how their love story continues in the Netflix revival of the series.
2. Monica and Chandler from "Friends"
From a shocking hookup in England to a tearjerker of a proposal and wedding, Monica and Chandler made us all wish that we could be lucky enough to fall in love with our best friend. They knew each other inside and out, on their best days and their worst days. And they loved each other anyway. They made it work long-distance and supported each other through fertility struggles. It was an absolutely joy to watch these two fall in love.
1. Cory and Topanga from "Boy Meets World"
They loved each other for almost their entire lives. They were each other's first kiss. They were each other's first love. They knew their love was worth fighting for even in high school. Now, in "Girl Meets World," we see them as wonderful parents that still love each other through thick and thin. Who can beat these two? No one.
Television just wouldn't be the same without the incredible couples. We have laughed and cried with them and may still hold our significant others to the standards of these fictional characters. Regardless of whether or not you agree with my opinion, we can all agree that our favorite TV couples will always hold a special place in our hearts!
