Halloween is over. I know, I know, I'm pretty sad about it too. But on the bright side, it is now time to get ready for Thanskgiving! Right? Or should we be getting ready for the holidays? No, wait, I'm pretty sure it's time for Thanksgiving. Wait, no, maybe it is time for the holidays. Does anyone even know what to do with their lives now? I mean, for the past month or so, we've been happily planning our Halloween costumes and deciding what parties we were going to attend. But now that's all over. Now we're trapped in this weird space in time where the holidays begin to mix together. Now we're trapped in a month or so of deciding weather we want pumpkin spice latte or peppermint mocha. Welcome to the Holiday Zone...
OK, maybe I'm being a bit dramatic, but let's be honest, there is nothing more confusing than the end of the year. And here's why:
1. Halloween just ended.
Is there anything that can really match up to the excitement of dressing up? Or expecting a whole bunch of candy to be on sale at the store? Or getting the pants scared off of you at a haunted house? Now all we can do is watch the "Nightmare Before Christmas" to fill the Halloween shaped hole in our hearts and prepare us for the Holidays.
2. Deciding when to sing Christmas songs.
Let's be real, the second that Halloween was over, we were all ready to start jamming out to "Jingle Bell Rock." But is it too early? It depends on the person you ask. For some, you need to calm down and shut up, it's not Christmas yet. However, I say just keep singing. Though let's be honest, nobody really knows the answer to this question. All we can do is pretty much act like this if someone says something.
3. Realizing you have to start exercising again so you don't gain twenty pounds over the holidays.
With Thanksgiving and holiday dinners just around the corner, so are all the carbs. Now, no matter how health conscious you are, when given an endless amount of free food, how could you say no? Luckily for us, we have a gym on campus, so we have a way to help us maintain our pant sizes. Especially since the workers at retail stores always act like this when we ask if the pants are a little stretchy.
4. Trying to figure out when to start decorating your dorm/apartment.
Everyone loves to get into the season and decorate their room with Christmas lights and ornaments. But when is it to early to do so? I mean, is there a specific time or date when it's socially acceptable to start letting loose and putting up decorations? Especially when it feels like you just put up your Halloween decorations. The struggle has never been more real.
5. Realizing you're going to have to interact with family again.
Family is amazing. They are always there to make sure we are cared for and loved. However, they can also be a big pain in the butt over the holidays. Especially when everybody wants to know how school is going, if you're dating anyone new, or what you're planning to do with your life in general. And honestly, how can they expect us to answer these questions when we can barely answer them ourselves?
6. Coming to terms with the fact that the year is almost over.
On one hand, you have to find a way to turn that C or B into an A. On the other hand, you have to realize that 2015 is coming to a close. Soon you'll be another year older. For some of us, this means being closer to graduating. Leaving UC Merced behind. Entering the real world...
But we'll be fine. Hopefully.
