On October 22nd, Corey Smith will perform at the newly opened Druid City Music Hall, formerly known as The Jupiter. The venue opened on August 26th with opener, Moon Taxi, and hosted CBDB on September 19th for Ole Miss Gameday. Smith, a Georgia native, is a country singer best known for his songs "Twenty One," "Maybe Next Year," "Carolina," and "If I Could Do It Again." His tenth album, "While The Gettin Is Good" was just released on June 23rd, including the singles "Feet Wet" and "Ain't Going Out Tonight."
I personally have been a fan of Smith since high school, and his songs are relatable to college students - drinking, growing up and being unsure of the future. "Twenty-One" and "If I Could Do It Again" have always been near the top of my playlists. For Smith, college students have truly been his largest fan base, as he started playing mostly in Athens, GA, while still working as a high school teacher in Suwanee. As word spread about his music, he quit and decided to focus on music full time. It has clearly paid off - he grossed over $4 million in ticket and music sales in 2008 according to a Washington Post article. His conscious decision to grow through playing small venues has contributed to his success as well as his great music that is especially relatable while coming of age in the South.
The show will be at Druid City Music Hall on the Strip on Thursday, October 22nd, the weekend before the Crimson Tide takes on Tennessee for the traditional third Saturday in October game. The doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 8:30.
General admission tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at druidcitymusichall.com.
