So many contradicting thoughts run through my mind as I sit in classes throughout the day, walk to and from Starbucks, and lay on the couch with my sorority sisters and chat about life. They leave me feeling confused and unsure of what comes next. So, here’s a look at my daily thoughts:
Classes
I can miss a few classes here and there and be fine. My professor won’t even notice; he doesn't take attendance. What’s the point of going to a class where I don't even learn anything? My bed sounds so much more appealing right now.
vs.
Class is so important. It keeps you in check and gives you motivation to keep studying. Each class has some sort of lesson to learn, whether it’s textbook material or not. Go to every class you possibly can, don’t miss a class, because you’re tired. The real world doesn't care.
Sleeping
Sleep isn't important. I can go to bed at 4 a.m, wake up at 7 a.m, have a couple cups of coffee and be great for the next 18 hours. Naps are cool, too. That extra ten minutes that you should be studying or doing something productive can totally be spent sleeping and catching up on all the rest you aren't getting.
vs.
If I actually made sure I got enough sleep each night, everything would be so much better. I would be able to stay awake in class, therefore my grades would improve. I wouldn't get sick as often and I wouldn't have to abuse my relationship with coffee so that my eyes will stay open.
Drinking
This is college, man. Live it up. Don't miss a night out, because you'll miss all the fun. Learn how to rally, learn how to thrive. Be fun, take shots. This is what college is about, right?
vs.
There’s so much more to college than a night out that you can’t remember. College isn’t seeing if you can rip as many shots as the 6’10, 220lb football player you’re friends with. Make the friends you’ll have for a lifetime, prioritize schoolwork, and become a better person and friend.
All in all, college has left me with so many unanswered questions. But then I realized, the real world will only be worse!
