You’re laying in bed on a Friday morning dreading the thought of walking to class in the freezing cold. You take a peek out of your window to see tons of fresh white powder on the ground outside of your dorm from the snowfall the night before. Your roommate runs into your room and screams, “Snow day!” This is it, the first snow day of the season. You have a four-day weekend ahead of you. You’re in a dorm filled with all your closest college friends, and there is two feet of snow outside. What is there to do now? The possibilities are endless...
First things first, splurge on groceries and pig out.
The cardinal rule of snowstorms in college is, you must stock up on as much food as possible to survive the weekend. You are going to be eating a lot more than usual. My mother always told me, “You cannot survive a snowstorm without milk and bread." So get together with your roomies, gather as much cash as you can find, and head to the nearest grocery store. In college, we are all broke, so be sure to only get the absolute necessities — water, ramen, peanut butter, bread, frozen pizza and cereal. It's alright to splurge on a few treats like ice cream and candy. As you push your cart down the packed aisles, try to ignore the mob of stressed customers rushing to get their bread and milk.
Stock up on beer.
When snowed in for the weekend, college kids will do what they do best — drink. A quick trip to the store is necessary to get enough beer for a weekend’s worth of drinking games. What is better than getting your closest friends together, bringing out a couple cases of Natty and playing a few drinking games? Trust me, alcohol will come in handy during the snowy weekend ahead. So, pull out the pong table and enjoy some flip cup and beer pong in the warmth of your apartment.
Play Cards Against Humanity.
If you over indulged during the last game of flip cup and looking for a game that doesn't involve drinking? Put the pong table away and play a new, different kind of game — Cards Against Humanity. This is a party game where players complete fill-in-the-blank statements using mature-content phrases printed on playing cards. Although Cards Against Humanity can be very awkward and dirty, it makes for a hilarious game to play with your friends on a snow day. Grab five or more people and get ready to laugh.
Brave the storm for a keg crawl.
For most college students, a snow day is an excuse to drink all day in the snow with your friends. In college, there is bound to be a party or two happening on a snow day. You must always be prepared to brave the storm for a big party or an outside keg crawl. This is a great excuse to take the day off of all responsibilities and drink with your friends. So why not put on your cutest snow gear and go?
Show off your fashion sense.
Although snowstorms can be rough, they also make for great fashion statements. A freezing cold blizzard is the perfect time to show off your sense of style. Now is the time to put on your free people printed leggings and crochet hat you've been dying to wear since Christmas and show off a little bit. Grab those adorable bean boots that have been hiding in your closet since the last winter and get ready to go out in the snow.
Do face masks and a chick flick marathon.
What better thing to do on a day off then put on a face mask and have a movie marathon? Snow days are the perfect time to hangout with your girlfriends and do girly things like paint your nails, put on face masks and watch your favorite chick flicks. Make sure you are fully stocked with the best chick flicks, like "What a Girl Wants," "Bridesmaids" and "The Notebook"!
Stay in bed all day and watch Netflix.
Snow days are a great excuse to lay in bed all day, ignore the outside world, and catch up on your favorite Netflix series, such as "Making a Murderer," "Gossip Girl" and "Friends." This is the time to throw on your fuzzy socks and Victoria's Secret robe and enjoy the comfort of your own bed. Maybe even catch up on some zzz’s.
