The Quinnipiac football team has not lost a game since 1929 — solely because the school has never had a football team in its existence. Just because Quinnipiac does not have a football team, and just because we cannot tailgate like every other SEC school, does not mean I will stop watching college football on Saturdays.
College football Saturdays are the appetizers to the harvests that are NFL Sundays. The significance of college football games is lower than the NFL, but it is still great to see some highly exciting football games. Sadly, just like most, if not all, NFL games, I will probably not get to see one college football game live while at Quinnipiac.
While this is not a plea to get a college football team at the school (but it would be pretty dope), as a die-hard sports fan it is somewhat depressing to know that I will never spend my Saturday mornings in the huge fan sections at ESPN's College Gameday.
I just want to make a really funny sign and get on TV.
Another huge downside to not having a college football team at QU is the inability to tailgate. A tailgate would actually give me a reason and an incentive to get out of bed before noon on Saturdays.
As a die-hard sports fan at QU, all I can do is watch whatever games I can watch on TV or on my computer. While I usually get some low rate Division I game early on in the day on ESPN, at least I can watch some sort of football before the primetime showcase game airs on ABC.
Despite that Quinnipiac does not get extensive national publicity for their sports, it is a blessing in disguise that the school does not have a team and that I cannot enjoy a live college football game on Saturdays. Not only would the tailgates and the games be chaotic, but in the rare chance that QU were to upset some national powerhouse, there is potential for a storming of the field, with riots to follow.
Regardless of whether or not QU had a football team, it is still sad to know that kids that are either a couple years older than me, or even my age, are gracing the national stage of college football as I watch them on my couch while eating an entire bag of Doritos.
Although I may not be able to express my appreciation for those student-athletes at noon on every other Saturday, it remains shocking what these young and talented athletes (of all sports, not just football) can do, especially at such a grand level.
With the college football season right around the corner, it is time to get prepared for those wild Saturdays. Whether it's from a seat in a 60,000-seat stadium or from the seat on the couch, I am grateful that I can at least watch some college football at school.
