College is a time for exploring new possibilities and accomplishing new things. Although I already started college a few months ago, with a few more years to go there is so much more that I hope I will accomplish. Writing this as a freshman, I feel a lot of insecurity about where I am presently, so I look forward to growing spiritually and expanding my horizons throughout college. With that, I hope that I can read this bucket list my senior year and say that I successfully completed it.
1. Study abroad
As someone who is majoring in International Relations, I’m thankful that studying abroad is so well incorporated within my department. My intense desire to travel the globe has been present for most of my life. If I don’t get the chance to experience the beautiful medley of cultures that this world has to offer, I don’t know if I can say that I lived a fulfilling life.
2. Beat procrastination for good
Procrastination can be such a killer when it come to productivity, and I can honestly say that I fall victim to it almost every single day. I hope to work on improving my time management and beat procrastination because I know that I’ll be much more successful if I do.
3. Try new things
College is the time to step out of your comfort zone, which I believe helps us grow as individuals. This is especially scary as a freshman, but I hope I continue to try new things. Perhaps I’ll even find a new passion by taking these leaps of faith.
4. Improve my writing
What I love about writing is how you can never stop improving. I hope I continue to be in tune with my inner self in order to write truthfully, expand my vocabulary, and keep that grammar in check.
5. Stay in shape
We constantly hear about the “Freshman 15” before we go to college, and I can understand why it’s an actual fear for some people. College cultivates an abundant amount of stress which sometimes leads to overeating, and healthy options aren’t always available. Additionally, it’s difficult to find time to exercise in a day crammed with essays, studying, and piles of power naps. I hope to continue to take advantage of the gym and make staying in shape a priority.
6. Find my place
I almost can’t put into words how difficult it can be to find your place in such a new and different environment. It can be kind of discouraging feeling like you don’t have a place yet, and it’s often accompanied by loneliness. I meet new people every day, but I hope to someday find a group that will make me feel as fulfilled as I was in high school.
7. Make a difference
I feel like in college I’m being presented with more chances to dedicate my time to helping others. With volunteer opportunities and becoming more aware of the issues within my community, I hope that in some way I can make a difference for the better. Whether this be through community service, writing, or just simple acts of kindness, I hope I can incorporate charity and generosity in my daily life.
8. Find happiness.
I don’t want to look on the negative side with the amount of change I’ve faced these past few months, but I’m going to keep hoping I eventually see the light at the end of the tunnel. I know that there are tons of people I have yet to meet and many spectacular things that I’m going to experience, so I’m going to focus my attention towards that instead. I know I’ll find that happiness soon enough, and I’ll look back at this little bucket list a year or two from now feeling blessed.
