Choose Your Friends Wisely

When you get a virus on your computer what do you want to do: keep it or get rid of it? If you let a virus spread, it will corrupt your system and destroy your data. To keep your data safe, you want to get rid of the virus as soon as possible and probably get software that will prevent any further attacks. The solution seems obvious.

Negative, toxic people are like viruses in our lives. These are the people that constantly put you down, lead you away from your goals and dreams, always point out the bad, and are just altogether a bad influence. Just like a computer without a virus, life becomes easier when you delete negative people from it.

Your choice

You are the CEO of your life. You have the freedom to choose who you hang around with. You can promote, demote, or terminate the people you keep as company. In the words of Jim Rohn, “ you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with” including yourself. Take a moment and think of the five people you spend the most time with. Do they have a negative effect or a positive effect on your life? Let’s look at some habits of negative people and habits of positive people.

7 Habits of Negative People

  1. Their motto: “Life is hard and unfair”
  2. Most conversations consist of complaints and/or gossip
  3. Don’t trust others
  4. Blame others and hold grudges
  5. Try to be in control of YOUR life
  6. Thankless
  7. Have no goals/ stay in their comfort zone

7 Habits of Positive People

  1. Their motto: Life is full of choices, choose to make today great
  2. Speak highly of others
  3. Honest, forgiving, and encouraging
  4. They don’t “have” good days; they MAKE the days good
  5. Take responsibility for their own actions/ don’t make excuses
  6. Celebrate little victories
  7. Dream big and set goals

Are your five people lifting you up or tearing you down?

If you chose the latter, it might be time to make some changes. While this does not mean you should completely cut off every single individual who doesn’t push you towards your goals; you should be mindful of the amount of time you spend with people who do not encourage you to be a better person. Whether we like to think so or not, the people we are around have huge effects on our lives. Your top five people you hang around should make you want to be the best you can be and elevate you to new levels. You should not have to worry about what these people will think of you or your dreams and thus trying to tailor yourself around them. The term ‘best friend’ speaks for itself, you bring out the best in each other. By choosing who you spend your time with, you are shaping your future.

What happens when you delete negative people from your life?

Deleting negative people will transform your life. At first, it may feel uncomfortable and dismal. It may feel like you’ve made the wrong decision or you’ve just quit an addiction. But after some time, you’ll begin to notice the difference. You start noticing all of the blessings that come with each and every day. You’ll develop new and true friendships, self-respect, goals and dreams. The weight of those that have been dragging you down is now gone; you’re free. Instead of spending all that extra time worrying about what someone will think, do, or say, you have all the more energy to use to pursue your dreams and accomplish more with each passing day. One day, you’ll look back and wonder how and why you put up with those viruses for so long. You’ve seen how much better a computer runs without a virus, imagine how much better your life would run. What are you waiting for?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
