In this installment of the interviews with my teammates and the members of the Centre Women's Lacrosse Team, I feature first-year attacker Abby Tessitore. Affectionately known as "chicken nugget" or "nugget" because of her golden brown tan and nugget-ness, Abby has quickly made a positive impact on CWL.
She took time out of her day to answer a few questions about her time with CWL thus far.
DB: "First, even though we are teammates, could tell me about yourself? Where are you from and why did you choose Centre?"
AT: "I am from Greenville, South Carolina. I have a Schnoodle named Tobey and I have pink hair. Centre was kind of a last minute decision for me because of a scholarship opportunity offered to me. I had to decide really fast if Centre was where I wanted to be and, luckily, I got on campus and knew it was the place for me."
DB: "What is your year and your major(s) here?"
AT: "I am a freshman and I am thinking of majoring in Sociology and Anthropology."
DB: "When did you start playing lacrosse?"
AT: "I started playing lacrosse my freshman year of high school because my mom told me I needed to make friends."
DB: "Why did you choose to continue playing in college?"
AT: "I debated playing in college for a while, but, ultimately, I decided to play because I had worked so hard to get to the level I was at. I really wanted to keep growing and learning. I also really enjoyed being a part of a team in high school and knew it would be an even better experience in college. And it is."
DB: "Are you happy with your decision to continue playing in college?"
AT: "Heck yes! I am so happy I get the opportunity to be a part of the best team on campus. I get to be teammates and friends with the coolest girls on campus, who would be unhappy about that?"
DB: "In your opinion, what is the biggest difference between high school lacrosse and college lacrosse?"
AT: "The biggest difference between high school and college is the commitment to the team. Our team at Centre is so committed to the program and being successful. I get to play alongside girls I aspire to play like every day, which challenges me to be the best I can."
DB: "What has it been like starting during your first year as a college athlete?"
AT: "Starting as a first year was not something I ever expected coming in. It makes me incredibly happy to know that my coaches and teammates trust me enough to share the field with them. I think of it as something I have to earn every day at practice, not something given to me."
DB: "What is your fondest memory involving lacrosse at Centre?"
AT: "My fondest memory was our pregame 'hype' dance party before the Sewanee game. We were just so excited about playing lacrosse and going out there and really competing as a team (which we did)."
DB: "Do you have any regrets?"
AT: "I have no regrets. I am definitely still learning, I make mistakes every day in practice and games, but I have an awesome team and coaching staff teaching me and helping me grow as a player."
DB: "What has been the most rewarding part of being a college athlete?"
AT: "The most rewarding part of being a college athlete is, as coach would say, 'loving the process.' We all have to do the tough stuff together, but we are rewarded when we, or one of our teammates, does something awesome."
DB: "What are your hopes for the team this year?"
AT: "My hopes for the team for the rest of the season are that everyone continues to push themselves and that we collectively keep working as a unit."
DB: "What are your hopes for yourself this year?"
AT: "My hopes are that I can make a difference on the field and be a good teammate."
DB: "Finally, if you could give advice to the players who follow you, what would you say?"
AT: "Take advantage of your time on the field and work as hard as you can because you never know when it could be taken away."
