Athletics Is A Sport?
Who Are You Sports

I am a self-certified couch potato a majority of the time, but I absolutely love the Olympics. With the 2016 Olympics less then a week away, the anticipation is killing me. A few questions regarding the international sporting event have plagued me for a while. I thought I'd share them with you all for your, and my own, personal entertainment.

1. Athletics is a sport?

Yes, yes it is; it's an Olympic one. Some of us less sporty individuals might know it as track and field, but then again, maybe not.

2. Why is the Olympics sponsored by McDonald’s?

Because athletes are totally grabbing a Big Mac after their pre-Olympic workout.

3. And what about Coca Cola?

Seriously, it makes no sense what so ever.

4. Will Michael Phelps just retire already?

Give someone else a chance, dude.

5. Why did we pick Rio as the host city?

With Zika and the country's crime rate, it really doesn't seem like the best option.

6. Why did they bring golf back to the Olympics?

As Rory McIlroy put it, I'll probably watch the stuff that matters instead.

7. How cool is the Refugee team?

This is rhetorical. I just think it's awesome.

8. How crazy will the opening ceremonies be?

Think about Carnival for a second. Rio really knows how to party.

9. Will any of the Russian team be allowed to play?

After the doping scandal who knows what'll happen.

10. Why are professionals allowed to compete in the Games?

The Olympics used to be amateurs only. Our athletic lineup would look really different if it still was.

11. Who will carry the American flag for the Opening ceremonies?

And can they handle it?

12. Does the U.S. need this distraction right now?

The answer is yes.

13. How many gold medals will the U.S. take home?

It is a competition after all.

14. What sporting event do they watch the most in China?

I know swimming and gymnastics are huge here, but what about other places?

15. Will the Women’s gymnastics team be able to bring home another win?

It's the 20th anniversary for the Magnificent Seven. That's a lot to live up to.

16. How have I never heard of the canoe slalom?

It's like the ski slalom on water. How cool is that?

17. How many athletes don’t finish the triathlon?

Or do they all actually get through it in one piece.

18. What Olympic team has the longest flight to the Games?

Guam wins that contest.

19. How much sand does a sand volleyball player bring home with him or her after every game?

But really, that stuff is a mess.

20. Are there any underwater rules for water polo?

No, there aren't. I checked.

21. How much food does an average Olympian eat per day?

Michael Phelps told NBC he eats around 12,000 calories a day. What else would you expect? Olympians are like athletic Energizer Bunnies.

22. What songs are typically on an Olympian’s pump up playlist?

Eye of the Tiger must be at the top of most lists.

23. Will they name the Olympic mascots?

I'm currently calling them Tigger and Artie until someone tells me differently.

24. Will Pokemon GO come to Brazil for the Olympics?

It currently doesn't look like it and it's breaking the competitive hearts of some Olympians.

25. Will Nathan Adrian see this article?

Fingers crossed.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
