The Truth About Having "Half" Siblings

This is for all the people out there with a "half-sibling." This is the case in many families, and I have two "half" brothers and there is something people always ask that I hate. I always hear, "Oh are they your real brothers or your half brothers?" ....As if there is a difference. I know everyone with a half sibling can relate, you've probably heard this one million times. I know they don't seem to mean anything by it, but for some reason, this bothers me because to me, my brothers are not half of anything. Comparing them to half of something, seems to diminish their importance. I'll tell you something, they are far from half important in my life, they are vital. Without my "half" brothers I wouldn't know that if I do it fast enough, I can run my finger through a flame without being burned, or that sticking your finger down in the fizz of soda makes it go down, although finding this out by your brother cramming his hand in your soda may have not been the most pleasant at the time, or that a big brother's love is unconditional even if they want to pinch your head off at times. I wouldn't have had anyone to threaten that kid on the school bus that my brother was going to whoop his butt if he didn't leave me alone. I wouldn't have had anyone to cheer on at their basketball games or dirt bike tournaments. I wouldn't have had anyone to make me so competitive. I wouldn't have grown up being even more loved than I already was. I wouldn't have had help getting a job while in high school or someone to call in college to ask if my chicken was still okay to cook. I would've never grew up to be so sassy and tough. I wouldn't have had four extra eyes watching out for me. I wouldn't have got to be the princess of the house before our younger sister came along anyhow. Having two older "half" brothers most certainly not only changed my life but made me a better person. Which is why they will never be half of anything because to me they were so much more than that. So here is to all the siblings and half siblings out there, and your abundance of love, no matter what percentage of DNA is shared.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
