What Does It Really Mean To Be An American?

I shouldn't be fearful that I am a colored person in this country.

It is very interesting and scary to think about the turn our country has taken recently. I'm not one to state my political views but I feel like our country has taken a turn for the worse.

Being a person of color America never scared me until this year. People look at you differently now, they feel empowered and that they now can belittle you. The travel ban currently in place was one thing that got me questioning what it is to be an American.

People come here and are citizens and now they are going to see maybe loved ones, maybe just a different view of the world and they have to fear that maybe they won't be able to come back. I mean to be an American is to be free but how free are you if you are afraid each and every day? People feel that it is okay now to be prejudiced and racist.

If you truly are an American you should see the world as equal and never once has the new unqualified president portrayed that he views us all the same.

He is focused on border patrol and stopping people from coming in that are so to speak taking jobs away from our nation. But maybe these "aliens" who are citizens come in for a better life? Maybe we need to stop looking at this as a negative but a positive. Maybe they wanted to be free and be a part of the free people.

Maybe we should put our focus towards the bad people in our country such as the racist, arrogant leaders. If we looked at people as equal in this country I'm sure hate crimes would be reduced also. We put each other down and I think it's about time to begin building each other up.

I shouldn't be fearful that I am a colored person in this country. I was born in America I should feel just as American as the people that surround me but I don't. People now look at me different and speak to me as if I'm not as educated as them and belittle me. If we continue to belittle one another what will become of our nation?

Our nation is already becoming extremely divided, we need to become together as a united nation. Despite our leaders being incapable of viewing us all the same it doesn't mean we should start viewing each other differently. We need to restore and create a stronger unity amongst our people.

Progress starts from within and instead of worrying about "aliens" coming in we should focus on bettering our people that are in this nation working for a living.

That's always been an issue but we have bigger issues we need to talk about as the United States of America.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
