Wow, is anyone else just having one of those days? Or maybe one of those weeks/months/years? Because, honestly same here. I feel like I'm sometimes drowning in things to get done for school, a lack of sleep, or drama with friends or family. It builds up so much that I become super stressed and don't even feel like myself anymore. You know what makes it worse? When people say, "You're outgoing, why do you want to spend time by yourself?" I shouldn't have to feel like I need to plan a secret time for myself. We all need it, no matter the personality type. Don't ever be embarrassed to say that you just want to do something alone. It's okay!
Some people play music or sing, some people talk it out with their friends and some people exercise. I find myself doing those things every once in a while, but I think two of my favorites are praying and driving. Everyone is different, but I hope everyone has their own escape. College is stressful and if you don't take action to overcome that stress, it will build and could possibly end badly. I've been through a situation similar to this a few times in my life. When I'm stressed I get crabby, and I take it out on people I love. So, I've worked to complain less. Its okay to vent to your friends every once in a while, and honestly that's healthy. Don't keep it trapped in. But, there is a point when you have to stop relying on your friends and take care of yourself.
I pray a lot. God has both blessed me and challenged me at many points in my life. Knowing that I can place the tough parts of my life in His hands and ask for guidance relaxes me and helps me to focus on bettering the situation and being the best version of myself. Patience and things that are out of my control have always been hard for me to handle. He supports me with this by giving me strength and opportunities to grow in myself and in my faith and I am so grateful.
I also love driving and being in nature. Focusing on a single task and enjoying the wide open back roads or beautiful scenery brings such a sense of relief and calmness to my heart. If you have never tried it, you should. Roll the windows down and let the wind blow through your hair. Go on a hike. Sometimes I blare some music when I'm cruising, depending on my mood. And sometimes I just like to think about life and reflect on experiences or ideas that have been on my mind. It's the perfect excuse to take some time for you and enjoy the beauty of life around you.
Ultimately, please take time to relax and do something for yourself every once in a while. It's a great way to unwind and refresh, especially in the middle of a busy semester or work week. Don't lose yourself in the hustle bustle of life. Take care of yourself, because you deserve nothing but the best.
