The craziest yet most amazing part of this world is the infinite number of perspectives it is viewed through. For instance, when I say the word “shine”, every single person reading this is thinking of something different that may or may not shine. Personally? I am thinking of the way water shines when touched by the sun. Another person may be thinking of a car shining in the sun on a hot summer day after a car wash. To me the difference in thought and opinion is magical.
I often tell people when they are upset about something they just need to look at it from a different angle. Just as there are infinite ways in which different people can see the same object, there are infinite ways a single person can see one object if only they open their eyes and look for it.
I think that is one of our biggest problems to date. We tell ourselves that we are open minded and listen to what those with differing opinions have to say yet we aren't and we don't. We are very focused on trying to be the best we can be and because of that focus we may have become narrow sighted. We only see within our lane of vision and beliefs; anything outside of that lane is inconceivable and ridiculous.
It is okay to admit it, we all have the same problem to some degree. Honestly, I do not have a solution as I am still trying to work on this myself. However I have some suggestions that with any luck, will be able to help widen your lane of vision and beliefs:
Challenge your ideas and beliefs and let other do the same. You will never be able to fully form them until you have seen more than one side of them. Perspective.
Put down the phone or device and truly listen to people. Hear what they are saying and make understanding it a priority.
When you have a bad day, try your hardest to focus on everything good about the day, learn from the bad and move on. If nothing else, you were able to live another day. Is that not worth celebrating?
Pay attention to the world around you. Ask yourself what you can do to make a positive impact.
If all else fails, laugh just because. I'm not a scientist and will not pretend to know if there is any scientific reasoning for it, but laughing always seems to make everything seem more manageable and you might even find someone to laugh along with you.
